Facebook Might Unveil Timeline Brand Pages On Feb. 29. February 29 only appears on the calendar every four years, and the 2012 edition may include Facebook’s official announcement on timeline for pages. A source told Business Insider that the social network may use its invitation-only Facebook Marketing Conference that day to make the announcement, saying: At Facebook, they pushed back the launch of timeline for brands to the end of February.

Those two pieces of information are too much of a coincidence. Another source told Business Insider: Timeline is coming to brand pages. Most people don’t even know. The Facebook Marketing Conference event, parts of which will be live-streamed, will be held in New York February 29, and it features a keynote by Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, Vice President of Product Chris Cox, and VP of Advertising and Global Operations David Fischer. If the information from the sources is accurate, those three executives are a perfect fit for handling the introduction. Facebook Pulls in Top Social Media Ad Dollars, But is it Enough? Half Of Young Professionals Value Facebook Access, Smartphone Options Over Salary: Report. For a whole new generation of tech-savvy young professionals, having access to social media or the right smartphone in the workplace is at times more important than earning a higher salary.

For businesses, that means adapting to this change in priorities rather than resisting it--if the Mad Men-era job force expected noon whiskeys and female secretaries, then our modern-day equivalent demands Facebook and iPhones. The findings come thanks to Cisco's second annual Connected World Technology Report, a study released today that says attracting and maintaining Millennial talent takes more than the number of zeroes attached to a weekly paycheck. The company surveyed 1,400 college students aged 18 to 23 and 1,400 young professionals under the age of 30 across 14 countries. HR and IT managers take note: "The growing use of the Internet and mobile devices in the workplace is creating a significant impact on job decisions, hiring and work-life balance," the report concluded. In fact, more than 80 percent of college admissions officers report using Facebook as part of their recruiting process. Facebook Etiquette Rules People still Break. With over 600 million users worldwide, Facebook is without a doubt the killer social app! But with so many users, there are bound to those who share too much or cross the line of appropriateness (often unknowingly) and this can put them in a compromising situation with friends, relatives or even employers.

Facebook can be a great tool, as much as it can be great vice. In order to use this powerful networking tool wisely, here are 15 behaviours to avoid. Top Facebook No-Nos 01. Making Racist Comments Not only is racist behavior incredibly offensive, it reflects very poorly on you. These types of comments can cost you your friends and even your job, especially if they are directed at a co-worker. 02. Nowadays, it’ becoming quite common for employers to add their employees to Facebook. 03.

Not only will some pictures violate the Facebook Rules and Regulations, but they could get you in to trouble with other professional contacts on the site. 04. Again, this goes back to your image. 05. 06. Study: Auto-Posting to Facebook Decreases Likes and Comments by 70% Facebook Pages that automatically publish content to the news feed through third-party apps such as HootSuite, TweetDeck, and Networked Blogs receive an average of 70% fewer Likes and comments on their posts per fan, according to a new study by Applum, developer of Page tool EdgeRank Checker.

The study says the difference is likely due to Facebook reducing the prominence of posts published by third-party APIs, and Facebook collapsing updates from the same API from across a user’s friends and Liked Pages. As Likes and comments increase a post’s prominence in the news feed — thereby driving more impressions and clicks — all Pages using auto-posting apps should look to switch to manual posting if possible.

Many companies, public figures, organizations, and news outlets (including our own) use auto-posting apps to create Facebook Page updates by syndicating their Twitter posts or converting their blog post headlines. EdgeRank Checker’s Data. Brits: Facebook is more vital than a mobile phone, shower, toilet. The London Science Museum recently surveyed 3,000 adults asking them what things they couldn't live without. There were a total of 50 items mentioned (full list below); here are the top ten, in order: sunshine, Internet connection, clean drinking water, fridge, Facebook, National Health Service (NHS), cooker, e-mail, flushing toilet, and mobile phone.

Yes, you read that correctly. Facebook ranked fifth! Residents of the UK consider only four things more important than Facebook. Two of them are actual human needs (sunshine and clean drinking water) and one is very closely related to a human need (fridge). The fact that Facebook was listed higher than e-mail does not surprise me, but things like NHS, flushing toilet, washing machine, shower, central heating, and air conditioning do.

"Brits are obsessed by the weather, so it's not surprising sunshine was rated as the top thing we couldn't live without," Sarah Richardson, Science Museum Exhibition Manager, told Daily Mail. A top Facebook official met with German politicians this week amid rising concerns over the "Like" button and widespread criticism in Germany of the social network's approach to privacy. Evangelist Franklin Graham is praising Russian President Vladimir Putin for his aggressive crackdown on homosexuality, saying his record on protecting children from gay “propaganda” is better than President Obama’s “shameful” embrace of gay rights.

Graham, who now heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association started by his famous father, praises Putin in the March issue of the group’s Decision magazine for signing a bill that imposes fines for adults who promote “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations to minors.” The Russian law came under heavy criticism from gay rights activists, and from Obama, ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. In response, Obama included openly gay athletes as part of the official U.S. delegation to Sochi.

“In my opinion, Putin is right on these issues,” Graham writes. “Our president and his attorney general have turned their backs on God and His standards, and many in the Congress are following the administration’s lead. (Adelle M. The Future of Social Gaming Isn't Limited to Facebook - Tricia Duryee - Social. The bulk of social gaming revenue in the next three years will not come from Facebook, as you might suspect, but rather from alternative platforms that are dominant in other countries. In a study conducted by SuperData Research on behalf of Viximo, a social games and applications platform, it found that non-Facebook social gaming will explode to $5.6 billion in 2014, up from an estimated $3.2 billion this year.

At that level, the study found that it will represent 65 percent of the overall projected revenue, including both Facebook and non-Facebook social gaming networks, which together are expected to hit $8.6 billion in 2014. Most of the non-Facebook revenue will be driven by international markets, where Facebook is not dominant, including Asia, Russia, Brazil and Turkey. Some of the social networks include Hyves in the Netherlands; Tuenti in Spain; StudiVZ, a student-focused site in Germany; and Badoo, a dating site in the U.K. Other findings: Facebook and eBay Team Up for E-commerce. Facebook and eBay have unveiled a new partnership for online shopping. The new business unit will apparently “seamlessly” integrate eBay with Facebook’s “open graph” platform—its map of friends and social connections—to create a “social shopping” experience. As well as "liking" or "recommending" pages, the new service will let Facebook users "want" items they find during online shopping.

They can also “love," “own," or “review” products, according to Forbes, so that friends can see these notifications in their news feeds and visit the sellers themselves. Facebook executive Katie Mitic, who joined eBay's board of directors last month, announced the new service at eBay’s developer conference in San Francisco on Wednesday.

The new service takes “word-of-mouth and puts a bullhorn to it," she said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The idea is to make e-commerce a more social experience, says Matthew Mengerink general manager of X.commerce, eBay’s developer and merchant division. Facebook changes irk some of its friends. Facebook's latest move is testing the patience of its friends. The world's most popular social-media site, which is making a habit of making changes and tweaks with little or no advance warning to its 750 million users, set off tons of dislikes Wednesday, angering many with a redesign that alters the look and feel of its popular profile pages. News stories under Facebook's News Feed now top the pages instead of fresh posts from friends.

Event reminders such as birthdays and friend requests are squished under a ticker-like function, part of a broader effort to give more of a real-time feel à la Twitter and upstart rival Google+, which opened its invitation-only social network to the public Tuesday. There also are newly designated categories for "close" friends, family, co-workers and others. Facebook is expected to announce even more changes today at its F8 developers conference in San Francisco, including next-generation media sharing allowing users to more easily share video and music. Facebook's new Timeline tells you who unfriended you. 23 September '11, 07:29pm Follow According to a report by Gizmodo, Facebook has now exposed something that has been deep and dark for some time. What friends of yours on Facebook have unfriended you. Some people take this very seriously, and this could cause a lot of grief for longtime pals and colleagues. Basically, in your new Facebook Timeline, which tracks everything you’ve done on the Facebook system from the day you were born and then signed up, lets you look at your friends. One thing is different though, it shows you what friends you’re no longer friends with, because it’s showing you the timeline of who you’ve been friends with historically. Oops. 5 Key Features Missing From Facebook Music. [partner id="evolverfm" align="right"]First, some perspective: Even after yesterday’s big Facebook f8 hullabaloo, people will still listen to and discover music without Facebook, as hard as that might be to believe right now, given all the attention paid to the social network’s shift into media sharing, which suddenly made Twitter look like the stripped-down communications protocol it has always been.

But it would be folly to ignore the effects of Facebook’s shift into “verbs” in addition to “nouns,” as Mark “Sugar Mountain” Zuckerberg cleverly put it yesterday — by which he meant that Facebook can now track and share what you do, in addition to the things you like. Yes, Facebook will facilitate legal music sharing — something the industry has been trying to do ever since Napster electrified (some would say “electrocuted”) the music business over 10 years ago. But as important as it is, Facebook’s music initiative is missing five key ingredients, all of which are within its grasp: 1. 2. Facebook to offer $10 million in Facebook Ads to boost U.S businesses. 26 September '11, 04:13pm Follow The focus might still be on Facebook’s new Timeline and media partnerships but today the world’s largest social network has announced it wil partner with National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to provide tools, resources and up to $10 million in Facebook Ads to help small businesses in the U.S thrive.
