Christmas Tree Cake. Teeny Tiny Rainbow Cakes. You’ve probably seen many full-size rainbow cakes (here's one with White Chocolate Buttercream and who can resist this Vanilla Rainbow Cake?).

Teeny Tiny Rainbow Cakes

But there’s something special about having a tiny little rainbow cake of one’s own, which is why I’m making these for a friend’s birthday later this month. They’re just the ticket to bring a smile to anyone’s face, especially a slightly birthday-weary guest of honor! These are easy to make, and a fantastic candidate for “make-ahead” due to the freezer time involved. The parchment paper is actually, I believe, the most important part of the recipe—the layers are so thin that there’s no other way to handle them.

The parchment paper provides both stability AND mobility! Measure out six sheets of parchment paper to line your 9”x13” pan. Divide the mixture evenly into six bowls. Preheat your oven, and prepare the first layer. Pour the batter into the pan, and spread it just to the edges of the pan with a spatula. Bake the layer for about 10 minutes. Rubik’s Battenburg « S'tasty. By Vicky in Cake 73 Comments Tags: blackcurrant , cake , jam , marzipan , rubik's , Victoria sponge Update: On July 14th, two days after posting I received an email from Ernő Rubik himself saying that he liked my cake.

I guess the world is really a very small place. ‘ Thanks for the nice birthday surprise which sweetens the bitterness of passing time.’ Hungarian Ernő Rubik invented the Rubik’s cube in 1974. He was born on the 13th of July, 1944. We wanted to add some flavour to the cakes and not have it all just taste of plain old sponge cake. We essentially had to make three cakes which amounted to a whole pound of butter and over a jar of jam. The cakes were then measured and cut into pieces before being glued together with sticky blackcurrant jam. When I brought this cake into work people really didn’t what to make of it. Here’s how: One Basic Battenberg (You will to make three basic Battenberg cakes for the Rubiks, using two colours per cake) To finish Related posts you might like:

Rainbow ice cream cone cake bites....! ....so to occupy some time during hurricane irene this past weekend, made these goodies!...... Which were made with some left over frozen cupcakes....and didn't really feel like making a new batch of buttercream just for these....so instead of cake bites made with crumbled cake and frosting...they are made with marshmallow fluff...!.... And you may be thinking..... "where's the rainbow"....? ...inside of course....!... So really these are faux mini ice cream cones made with multi colored cupcakes, fluff, and vanilla candy melts..... ...i only used one cupcake for each color (because that's what i had in the freezer!)....

...then roll each color into a "ball" and freeze for about 1/2 hour or so.... ...then slice each into 6 pieces..... ...then mix and match the slices to get rainbow "balls"..... ...then dip in the vanilla candy melt and add some cool sprinkles and a mini red m&m on top....and you get some really cute mini rainbow ice cream cone cake n' fluff bites.... How to Make Marshmallow Fondant. This time I decided to make it with those mini fruit flavored marshmallows.

How to Make Marshmallow Fondant

I had to sort them by colour first. I figured they would add a little bit of flavor to the fondant so I wouldn't have to add much flavoring oil. I use gel colours to dye my fondant but regular food colouring will work too. You won't be able to get really dark colours without making your fondant sticky, but for lighter colours you can just even it out with more icing sugar. I also had lemon oil and coconut flavoring on hand.. oh la la the value brand (which still works fine).

Step One: Take a couple of handfuls of marshmallows and put them in a microwave safe bowl. I like to make smaller batches because its easier to add the colour to the melted marshmallow than it is to work the colour into the fondant later. Step Two: Stick the marshmallows in the microwave for ten seconds at a time until the are puffed up and easily stir into a goo with a wooden spoon. Step Three: Step Four: Fondant with the icing sugar kneaded in.
