25 Great Calvin and Hobbes Strips. Why Bill Watterson is our hero. We've re-launched Progressive Boink, friends! Our new front page is here. Hope you enjoy. Hundreds of comic strips have been published in newspapers. The majority are terrible, and almost all the rest are mediocre. And it's really a shame that it's so difficult to quantify this strip's greatness. Calvin and Hobbes ran from 1985 to 1995. "Virtue needs some cheaper thrills. " © Universal Press Syndicate Calvin is an unbelievably intelligent six-year-old.

It's kind of refreshing to see a strip that doesn't feel the need to have an uplifting message, or feel like it needs to point out that it's mean to whack an innocent person upside the dome with a snowball. - Jon "He's one of the old gods! One of the top classic Calvin strips. . - Bill "You've taught me nothing except how to cynically manipulate the system. " Pretty much the voice of Bill Watterson dictating the current state of our school systems. . - Nick "We prefer your extinction to the loss of our job. " - Jon - Nick. 10 Myths About Introverts || CarlKingCreative.com || Los Angeles, CA. 10 Myths About Introverts By Carl King [ Translations: Spanish | German | Dutch | Italian ] I wrote this list in late-2008. Around that time, I was lucky enough to discover a book called, The Introvert Advantage: How to Thrive in an Extrovert World , by Marti Laney, Psy.D.

Sure, anyone who knows me would say, “Duh! A section of Laney’s book (page 71 through page 75) maps out the human brain and explains how neuro-transmitters follow different dominant paths in the nervous systems of Introverts and Extroverts. Unfortunately, according to the book, only about 25% of people are Introverts. So here are a few common misconceptions about Introverts (not taken directly from the book, but based on my own life experience): Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk.

Myth #2 – Introverts are shy. Myth #3 – Introverts are rude. Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people. Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public. Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone. Myth #7 – Introverts are weird. -Carl. 100+ Resources for Web Developers | BlogWell. Super Obvious Secrets That I Wish They’d Teach In Art School at Marvelous Mustache Factory. I get a lot of emails from illustration students and young cartoonists. Sometimes they ask to interview me for a class assignment, sometimes they’re recent graduates looking for advice on how to transition from art student to professional illustrator/cartoonist. I get emails asking about how I promote my work, how to “break into” illustration or comics, how to find clients, how to gain a following on the internet, etc.

I usually laugh a little as I read all these emails because I myself am still really struggling to make ends meet as a full time illustrator and cartoonist. I’m still figuring out what works and what doesn’t. But things are definitely improving and getting easier, slowly but steadily. I understand the daunting feeling that comes with the end of college or the decision to leave a day job and take those first steps towards a career as an illustrator or cartoonist, having gone through it myself not that long ago. Creativity is a muscle. Again, creativity is a muscle.

Wow! Use Buttons Instead of Links and Increase Your Clicks. There has been some research around whether using “buttons” on your website and in your email marketing campaigns as a call-to-action instead of words with links drives more clicks. It’s one of those things that every company really has to test for themselves. For businesses that market to consumers, you’ll probably find buttons like “Sign Up Now” or “Buy Now.” If you’re marketing to businesses and you offer a white paper you might use the text “Download Now” or if you’ve got a tutorial for your viewers to watch it might be “View the Demo.”

At any rate, an “actionable” word will usually work better than a passive one on your button. Instead of saying “Free Trial” you might try something like “Start Your Free Trial.” All of these things might seem subtle, but they also might get your readers doing what you want them to do. Our marketing team developed a few buttons for us to use internally. Some great resources I found for creating buttons: Best Practices for Using Buttons About the Author. Make your own book. Make it great.
