Animals tracked with tiny tags summon their own drones - tech - 09 October 2013. Keeping tabs on threatened species just got easier, thanks to sensor-laden, networked tracking tags, and automated drones that fly out to gather the data IN A dark, rainy forest on New Zealand's Great Barrier Island, zoologist Robin Freeman waited. And waited. He spent two weeks in 2008 on a stakeout in anticipation of a black petrel. It was due back at its nest – and with it, the expensive GPS data logger it was wearing. And now there is. But that's not all. "Drones can fly around listening for the 'heartbeats' of the tags," says Lucas Joppa, the Microsoft team's leader.

Several conservation organisations are getting ready to launch trials of the new tag system. The Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP), based in Mfuwe, will probably run the first field test for the drones. The tags use a suite of sensors to log a creature's GPS position and direction of movement. Christopher Kaiser-Bunbury of the SIF is excited by the potential. Threat mapper New Scientist Not just a website! Quadcopters, Cameras, and the Law « VideoUniversity. Quadcopters, multicopters and other remotely controlled model aircraft aircraft have long been enjoyed by videographers who envision capturing stunning aerial video. Since the military has devised the highly effective drones for use in the war, these more innocent hobbyists aircraft have attracted new attention.

Let’s start by defining some terms. The term drone is most properly applied to a military weapon. But the word has been erroneously applied to radio controlled model aircraft flown by hobbyists. Drones are for the military; RC aircraft are for hobbyists. OK? First Person Video (FPV) is captured by a camera that is mounted on the aircraft. Visual Line of Sight (VSOL) refers to the practice of keeping the aircraft within sight at all times. Aerial Filming and Privacy The right to privacy is not mentioned in the Constitution, but the Supreme Court has said that several of the amendments create this right.

FAA is crafting new rules about model aircraft and how they may be used. The lawn mower QAV500 quadcopter fix | FPVDEVS. After I finished my QAV500 build I was heading out for my first maiden flight. Pushing the throttle stick up only got my quad flipping to one of the sides. Sometimes it flipped forward and sometimes to one of the sides. Frankly, it felt more like a lawn mower than a quadcopter. After verifying my build and googling obsessively for nearly two days I was able to locate the cause! Apparently I had my engine ESCs connected to the wrong slots in the Naza flight controller. What’s interesting is what caused this confusion. Apparently the ESCs lead numbering on the QAV500 PDB (Power distribution board) are in no way related to the slots on the Naza.

Basically, when I first soldered my ESCs to the board I marked using a small tape each of the wires according to the ESC number marking on the PDB itself. What you should notice is that the ESC number marks on the QAV500 PDB are in no way related to the order you should hook your ESCs to the Naza.
