Mass nude photo shoot in Dead Sea By Jonah Mandel (AFP) – Sep 17, 2011 DEAD SEA, Israel — Dawn over the lowest spot on earth illuminated a Dead Sea very much alive on Saturday, as more than 1,000 floating nude Israelis posed for a mass shoot by US photographer Spencer Tunick. The project, Tunick's first in the Middle East, is part of a bid to boost Israel's campaign to have the salt-saturated feature recognised as one of the world's seven natural wonders in a global online vote in November. Experts warn that the Dead Sea could dry out by 2050 unless urgent steps are taken to halt its demise.

Fameux pour ses gigantesques installations artistiques mettant en scène des centaines voire des milliers de modèles nus le temps de quelques clichés, le photographe américain Spencer Tunick a posé ses trépieds samedi 17 septembre en Cisjordanie, sur une plage du bord de la mer Morte . Un nu, pour attirer l'attention sur l'assèchement de la mer Morte Plus de mille Israéliens , volontaires comme c'est toujours le cas pour ses oeuvres, ont posé à l'aube dans un silence implacable rompu par les seuls appels au mégaphone de Spencer Tunick et de ses assistants donnant leurs consignes aux groupes de figurants. C'était une première au Proche-Orient pour l'artiste et l'une de ses rares compositions de cette envergure hors d'un décor urbain.

Tunick, known worldwide for his nude installations , recreated scenes from Richard Wagner’s opera Der Ring des Nibelungen . Volunteers were painted either red or gold and brought to several locations around Munich, Germany for the installation commissioned by the Bavarian State Opera .
