Paris artists reject Jeff Koons' terror attack memorial

American artist Koons, known for his reproductions of banal objects, announced he was to gift Paris with his Bouquet of Tulips sculpture in 2016 as a "symbol of remembrance, optimism, and healing" after the terror attacks of November 2015. The monumental piece, which depicts a giant hand holding multicoloured flowers, is due to be permanently installed at Tokyo Square in front of the prestigious Palais de Tokyo. But 24 artists, museum workers, collectors and politicians have urged city officials to reconsider its placement in an open letter published by French newspaper Libération. "We, artists, politicians, professionals and amateurs of the French art scene, ask for the abandonment of this initiative," reads the letter, translated to English.

An artist was removed from the Whitney Museum of American Art's colossal Jeff Koons retrospective after he splattered what was reportedly his own blood on one of the exhibition walls, forming the shape of an "X.

" Hungarian-born performance artist Istvan Kantor, who has a well-documented penchant for utilizing his own blood for the sake of his craft, was taken to a nearby hospital for mental evaluation Wednesday after museum security removed him from the show. No artwork was damaged during the incident, which was captured by photographer Antoine Lutens (see more from the Whitney vandalism at his Facebook page): Kantor was released shortly after with no charges filed.

According to Hyperallergic, he wrote about his subsequent plans on a Facebook page under his alter ego "Monty Cantsin Amen," the same moniker he attached to his bloody display on the wall behind Koons' "Rabbit" sculpture.

Next Big Idea: Jeff Koons' 'Train' at the High Line

Image by James Corner Field Operations, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Jeff Koons. As we continue to refine the initial design concepts for the rail yards section of the High Line, the design team is studying a range of options for the 10th Avenue Spur, with the objective to make it one of the major gathering spaces at the park. We showed two initial design concepts for the Spur at a community input meeting on Monday, March 12, and we also wanted to share a potential art installation conceived by artist Jeff Koons that could work with either of them. As one more far-reaching ideas – one that would bring trains back to the High Line in a big way – the art installation, called Train, would feature a full-size replica of a 1943 Baldwin 2900 steam locomotive suspended from a crane above the Spur.

This is not the first time Koons’ Train has been considered for a public space. Jeff Koons Proposes Dangling Train Over High Line.
