Something I remember about the course is how tough it is to take in so much new information in such a short space of time. With that in mind, my one piece of advice is to get your reading caps on and get stuck in before the course starts. Before my class’ recent mid-term (which I talked about at some length here and will return to again soon), I did all I could to involve them in the process of exam preparation. This involved getting them to prepare practice materials themselves. Part of this process was recording as mp3s certain scripts they’d chosen as listening materials. This meant quite a bit of work in terms of recording the lengthy scripts as well as formatting the student-prepared materials in time for classes the following day. It was a bit touch and go but I got there with time to spare. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but wish there was an easier way of doing it.
