6 Bevis Marks / Fletcher Architectes Priest. Norman Foster’s Swiss Re Building will soon have a new neighbor!
London-based practice Fletcher Priest Architects have designed a 16-story tower that will replace the existing, outdated 1980s office building. Now under construction, the new 230,000 square-foot office building at 6 Bevis Marks will reuse 50% of the original structure and be 80% more energy efficient than the current building. The scheme reclaims an unused service area space on the ground level and transforms it into a new public plaza, doubling the current public space and enhancing important pedestrian routes through and around the site. The building will embody a distinctive green tint from the recycled glass façade that contrasts the clear transparency of the low iron windows. An all-weather, open air roof garden is extended by a light ETFT-clad structure, allowing all occupants to enjoy the stunning city views. The lower city consumes whereas the upper city produces by the plug-in of self-sufficiency generators. So the entirety of the infrastructures, necessary to the city life, is replaced in the urban network.
The lower city works while the upper city dwells by creating a “housing reflect” of the existing towers.
