Decarboxylation | Skunk Pharm Research LLC. Cannabis produces phyto cannabinoids in a carboxylic acid form that are not orally active at least at the CB-1 receptor sites, because they don’t readily pass the blood brain barrier in their polar form. To enable them to pass the blood brain barrier, they must first be decarboxylated, to remove the COOH carboxyl group of atoms, which exits in the form of H20 and CO2.

Decarboxylation occurs naturally with time and temperature, as a function of drying, but we can shorten the amount of time required considerably, by adding more heat. The more heat, the faster it occurs, within reasonable ranges, and in fact occurs spontaneously when the material is burned or vaporized. There is another mechanism at play however, which suggests that we need to control the decarboxylation temperatures carefully. When we heat cannabis to convert the THCA and CBDA into THC and CBD, we are also converting THC to CBN at a faster rate. Thank you Jump 117 for this excellent graph!

Decarboxylation graph Quiescent oil. Decarboxylating Cannabis to Activate THC | Wake & Bake. Alright guys. It’s time for a personal news flash. At 41 weeks pregnant, I’d landed a new gig and just found out my new boss is… wait for it… Snoop Dogg. The Snoop D-O Double G. The Doggfather. Seriously. I’m not sure what kind of karmic boomshakalaka this is (or why I would ever try to use that word), but this is how it went down: I applied for a gig as a cannabis food writer (because that’s a job that exists now). They were down.I started writing shit and really had no idea what it was for.I got an email about the launch of the site with this link in it.

And at the risk of sounding like a completely starstruck a-hole, working for this guy’s startup… …is definitely the good good. Is it okay that that’s my all time favorite Snoop Dogg video? No? At any rate, nothing changes the fact that at this very moment my mom is downstairs trying to explain to my dad who Snoop Dogg is. All I know is that I’m so excited to be writing for what Mr. What Is Decarboxylation? Why Decarb? Time and Temperature Kief 1.

Antidepressants and Recreational Drugs (long!) HETEROCYCLICSAmoxapineMechanism of Action Amoxapine is a weak 5HT inhibitor and significantly inhibits reuptake NE. It is also a DA receptor antagonist. This drug increases the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain (much like tricyclics) and decreases dopamine levels, thus amoxapine can act as an antipsychotic (through its effects on dopamine) as well as an antidepressant.Common Side Effects Similar to the TCAs/tricyclics, see above.Metabolism Amoxapine is metabolized in the liver by the CYP2D6 enzyme.Recreational Drug Interactions Pretty much identical to the drug interactions for the tricyclics/TCAs, see above.BupropionMechanism of Action Bupropion's mechanism of action is not fully understood, but current information indicates that it is a NE and DA reuptake inhibitor, and also acts as a weak 5HT reuptake inhibitor.Common Side Effects Dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, sweating, tremor, aggravation of psychosis, potential for seizures at high doses.

Marijuana Growers HQ – Decarboxylating Cannabis: Turning THCA into THC. The other day I was asked by an acquaintance why the tincture they were making had very little, if any, noticeable medicinal or psychoactive effect. They swore they followed the same process found in a book on making edibles and soaked the cannabis in high proof for weeks but the tincture just didn’t work. The answer was simple but one that many in the cannabis industry don’t understand. One very important and necessary extra step had been overlooked. Cannabis used to make tinctures as well as other edible cannabis products requires decarboxylation.

So here is the deal. Research suggests THCA has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects but does not produce the psychoactive effect that make you feel “high”. Decarboxylation is a chemical reaction that releases carbon dioxide (CO2). The good news is we don’t have to wait years for cannabis to decarboxylate. When making tinctures, cannabis is not heated or baked, it is simply soaked in high proof alcohol. Setting Up The Experiment Kief.
