Life Extension Daily News. NewsRx.com DURHAM, N.C. - Cancer cells circulating in the blood carry newly identified proteins that could be screened to improve prognostic tests and suggest targets for therapies, report scientists at the Duke Cancer Institute (see also Stem Cell Research). Building on current technologies that detect tumor cells circulating in blood, the Duke team was able to characterize these cells in a new way, illuminating how they may escape from the originating tumors and move to other locations in the body.

The circulating tumor components include proteins normally seen when embryonic stem cells begin to specialize and move through the body to develop organs such as the heart, bones and skin, the Duke scientists reported this month in the journal Molecular Cancer Research. The discovery may enhance the accuracy of blood tests that detect circulating cancer cells, giving doctors better information to gauge how a patient's disease is responding or progressing. Fluoride Action Network. TOXO —  A Conversation With Robert Sapolsky. [ROBERT SAPOLSKY:] In the endless sort of struggle that neurobiologists have — in terms of free will, determinism — my feeling has always been that there's not a whole lot of free will out there, and if there is, it's in the least interesting places and getting more sparse all the time.

But there's a whole new realm of neuroscience which I've been thinking about, which I'm starting to do research on, that throws in another element of things going on below the surface affecting our behavior. And it's got to do with this utterly bizarre world of parasites manipulating our behavior. It turns out that this is not all that surprising. There are all sorts of parasites out there that get into some organism, and what they need to do is parasitize the organism and increase the likelihood that they, the parasite, will be fruitful and multiply, and in some cases they can manipulate the behavior of the host. Some of these are pretty astounding. We started looking at this. So what about humans? Toxoplasmosis Test. Why do I need to register or sign in for WebMD to save? A toxoplasmosis test is a blood test that checks for antibodies to the Toxoplasma gondiiparasite.

Your body's natural defense system (immune system) will make these antibodies only if you have been infected by this tiny parasite. The amount and type of antibodies you have shows whether your infection is recent or occurred in the past. More than one blood test may be done over several weeks. For most people, toxoplasmosis is not dangerous and goes away on its own.

You can become infected by eating food such as undercooked or raw meat from an infected animal or by handling an infected cat or its stool (feces). To see if your growing baby is infected, the test can be done on a sample of the fluid that is around your baby (amniotic fluid) taken during amniocentesis. Past research suggests that the parasite, estimated to infect 25 percent of people worldwide, can trigger or exacerbate psychotic symptoms and schizophrenia in genetically predisposed people.

The findings of the new study, published in the March issue of the journal Infection and Immunity, help explain why the infection causes serious disease in some but not in others and clarify its role in psychiatric disorders, the researchers say. "We already know that toxoplasmosis can play a role in some psychiatric disorders, but up until now we didn't know why. Actually, We Have No Idea What the Hell Our Drug Will Do to You - Gizmodo. Promotion Ends: August 29, 2012 Have you heard of the E-Cigarette or Electronic Cigarette ? If you haven’t and you’re a smoker or even a non-smoker, today is your lucky day. An E-Cigarette looks like a cigarette, feels like a cigarette, taste like a cigarette, but there’s something very different about it…it’s a better, healthier way to smoke.

To be good to be true? Actually no, it’s not. But we here at Life Style Journals are a little skeptical and aren‘t sure that we‘ve seen any real proof that these electronic cigarettes work to aide in quitting smoking. To get started, I have smoked for nearly 25 years and I volunteered to be the guinea pig. Most of the success stories talk about trying a 4-6 week program to quit smoking, tapering off the nicotine cartridges as you advance in the program. After one week smoking the Direct ECig™ I was surprised at the dramatic results.

Was very convenient. On d ay 7 I st.
