Selected artworks, projects and research - ofxQuartzComposition and ofxCocoa for openFrameworks. Two new addons for openFrameworks. Actually one is an update, and major refactor, so much so that I’ve changed its name: ofxCocoa (was ofxMacOSX) is a glut-replacement addon for openframeworks to allow native integration with opengl and cocoa windowing system, removing dependency on glut. Has a bunch of features to control window and opengl view creation, either programatically or via InterfaceBuilder. OfxQuartzComposition is an addon for openFrameworks to manage Quartz Compositions (.qtz files). Currently there is support for: loading multiple QTZ files inside an openframeworks application.rendering to screen (use FBO to render offscreen)passing input parameters (float, int, string, bool etc) to the QTZ input portsreading ports (input and output) from the QTZ (float, int, string, bool etc) Todo:

Projection Mapping | PointCloud Media Proof-of-Concept for Pools Our friends over at PointCloud Media just did a proof-of-concept for a project called “Raylight4D”, a really cool projectionmapping system for pools. Although details are necessarily quiet, Jack Hattingh explains, “The test was done with a ##### projector and the most beautiful thing is that the ambient light above the water does not affect the image.. the contrast ratio is pretty good and you can get good results with less projectors. 3D projections on water are typically cheaper, since they require less projectors compared with 3D building projections; and typically, no permits are required to use pool sites for projection mapping.

Essentially, pools are also more conducive to projection mapping because of their low ambient lighting, color, and ubiquity.” Mermaids, sharks, disappearing sand….pools make a perfect mapping surface! Learning the basics of projection mapping - Move Play Create. Projection Mapping has been around for a while, so we decided to see what all the fuss is about and create a small installation for an open house at SidLee Toronto. As most of our projects, it started out with a small prototype, to help us wrap our heads around the tech and creative alley ways we could take. In this post, we’ll try to describe our journey, and hopefully it’ll be of assistance to whoever is trying to have some fun with projections for the first time. The idea for the prototype was to create a pyramid-like sculpture, that we will project sound-reactive visuals onto. The visuals will be embracing the form and structure of the sculpture, in this case, triangles. Let’s tesselate. 1. We opted for a not-so-original, but nonetheless awesome pyramid shaped sculpture, which we first designed in our heads and then, in Cinema4D, which was totally unnecessary. 2. 3. 4.

By battleROYAL.berlin battleROYAL created a major production in celebration of the 125th anniversary of MADSACK Mediengruppe. MADSACK invited the city of Hannover to join them in celebrating their anniversary with an open-air festival and spectacular show event. 50,000 visitors gathered in the heart of the city for an evening of live performance, music, and entertainment. Hosted by Barbara Schöneberger, the stage program featured musical performances by Mousse T & Band, Lukas Rieger, Spax, Michael Schulte, Sarah Lombardi, Lions Head, and Sasha.

For the grand finale of the night, battleROYAL developed an innovative show experience combining live performance with advanced mapping and video design. The team turned the facade of MADSACK’s Anzeiger Hochhaus into both a vertical stage and multimedia installation, rising 50 metres over the crowd. Stunning imagery and powerful music combined with historical facts from MADSACK Mediengruppe wow’d the audience.
