Tie Dye Summer Tote. I’ve done it! After all these years of fearing the mess, the unpredictability, the “looking like I just left a Phish concert,” I’ve tried tie dye and I am hooked!

I seriously can’t stop searching around the house for things I can dye! I even considered staying home from my Italian vacation this week, just to tie dye! No, actually I didn’t consider that at all but I AM bringing this adorable market/beach tote that I made along for the trip. Here’s how I made it with Tulip Tie Dye… First I pulled out all the supplies sent by Tulip including a kit with 3 dyes (already in the bottles, ready to add water), full-color instructions, gloves and rubber bands, plus a tarp (my reputation precedes me.) I started with a 1/2 yard of solid coral-ish peach fabric and red dye from a Tulip One-Step Tie Dye Kit .

The dyeing process was messy, as expected, but the pre-filled bottles make it as convenient as possible. Find the centers of both bulls-eyes and make a small mark with disappearing ink. The Lazy Quilter: Easy Half Square Triangle Trick. I do so love the idea of quilting. But in actuality, the precision is not something I naturally excel at. I’m all about pretty fabrics and quick projects. Therefore I deem myself the lazy quilter. I whipped up this pieced pillow for the Craft Room Redesign Project in about an hour and a half, and I want to share with you the secret for making half square triangles in a jiff. I don’t even have a 1/4″ presser foot or any fancy quilting paraphernalia. You can use half square triangle units to make pinwheels, which are adorbs and very trendy right now. Get the Easy Half Square Triangle Trick after the jump. First off, I have three bolts of this gorgeous Jay McCarroll Habitat Raise the Roof cotton from Fabricworm, which I am using to make curtains, pillows, and the like for the office.

So, because I am a lazy quilter, I do not take serious measurements beforehand. Lay two different patterned squares right sides facing. Helps with this, but a regular straight edge will do. Trim those off: Done! Quilted & Piped Letter Tutorial. To Do List- Swap Quilted Magnets with a Tutorial! Done! – Another project crossed off my To Do List! Mini Mini quilts! For your refrigerator or note board! Unfortunately, these were not my idea! I wish I was the brains behind this project! I couldn’t find a tutorial for these, so thought I’d show you how I made mine! Step 1: Gather materials! Step 2: Cut the batting and the back fabric into 2″ squares. Step 3: Cut your scraps into even smaller pieces for the front of the magnet. Others I just cut and sewed and then trimed down to 2″ square. Step 4: Sew together all your pieces so that you have all the fronts put together. Step 5: Quilt all the fronts to the batting. Step 6: Put together the quilted piece and the back piece, right sides together. Step 7: Clip the corners and iron over the back fabric to help the seams lie flat.

Step 8: Insert magnet. Step 9: Topstitch! Then repeat and repeat and repeat… You get the idea! Like this: Needle and Spatula: Quilted Wine Tote Sewing Tutorial. I am excited to share the tutorial for this wine tote bag that I mentioned earlier! I had fun playing around and coming up with the pattern. I have seen lots of patterns online for wine gift bags, but I wanted to make something that was more of a reusable wine tote, inspired by this BuiltNY tote . One of these would make a great housewarming, hostess, or holiday gift, but it would also be great to make and keep for yourself. I find we are often heading out to a dinner party or other gathering and grab a bottle of wine on the way out the door - and it ends up awkwardly stuffed in my purse, halfway sticking out.

So I am sure we will get a lot of use out of these new totes! TERMS OF USE: For personal, non-commercial use only. What you will need: Cut out the two pattern pieces from the printed-out pattern. Out of the outer fabric, two rectangles 6 and 3/8"x15" and one circle (cut out according to the pattern) - I am using Robert Kaufman Metro Cafe as my outer fabric (love this!).
