What is retinal vein occlusion?

Facebook Twitter

Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) is a condition in which the veins that carry blood away from the retina become blocked. This can cause swelling, bleeding, and vision loss in the affected eye.

RVO can be classified into two main types: central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). CRVO involves a blockage in the central retinal vein, which supplies blood to the majority of the retina. BRVO involves a blockage in one of the smaller veins that branch off from the central retinal vein.
