Little Paper Planes | The Blog Photo Color Correction for the Amateur Photographer I recently updated my avatars and social profiles with some new photos of the 2011 Chris Spooner. I’m by no means a pro photographer, but the photos came out pretty well if I do say so myself! The key was all in the post processing and colour correction. I’ve already mentioned that I’m by no means a pro photographer. First up we actually need to take a photograph. The raw photo file is nothing special at all. Create a Levels adjustment layer from the menu at the bottom of the Layers palette. The step that completely transforms the image is the addition of a Color Balance adjustment layer. Next a Brightness/Contrast adjustment will help brighten up the image to reduce the background shadows, while the contrast will give more definition to the image. Once all the adjustment layers have been carefully tweaked, press CMD+A to select all, then CMD+Shift+C to copy. Change the blending mode to Linear Light and adjust the opacity to tone down the effect. Download the source file

How To Build a Stylish Portfolio Web Design Concept This tutorial covers part one of a multi-part series where we’ll go through the process of building a stylish design portfolio website. In this particular article we’ll create the visual concept and overall design concept in Photoshop, using various effects, blending modes and layer styles to create all the detailed elements of the design. The website we’ll be creating features a nice and clean layout and makes use of a contrasting header area to draw in the user. View the portfolio web design concept Open up Photoshop and create a new document. Right click and transform a selection to 960px, then draw guides to highlight the centre and each side. Use the rounded rectangle tool to draw a content area, but leave the edges around 10px short of the guides to allow for a Drop Shadow effect to be added. Paste in your logo in the centre of the design. Use the rounded rectangle tool to draw a small button in the header area. Load the layer styles window for this layer and add a Pattern Overlay.

Changing Time of the Day on a Photo In this Photoshop tutorial we will change day into night in a photo by using some simple techniques. Final Image Tutorial Details Program: Adobe Photoshop CC, Photoshop CS6, Photoshop CS5Estimated Completion Time: 45 minutesDifficulty: Beginner Resources Step 1 Open image “House”. Let’s darken the image a little bit with curves. Step 2 Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + Alt + N) and fill it with black (press D for default colors and Alt + Backspace to fill the layer with the foreground color). Step 3 At night the colors are usually more desaturated compared to daylight. Step 4 Night photos usually have a bluish/cyan tint, or at least this is how we imagine it (being cold and all). Step 5 Our night photo looks decent but we’re not done yet. Now choose a round soft brush and paint some glow around the window using a slightly yellow color (#e9e8d4). Step 6 Night is not night without the moon. Choose Select > Color Range and click once anywhere on the black background. Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Step 10 Step 11
