LinkedIn & “Me 2.0″-How to build a powerful personal brand « Waynebreitbarth's Blog Welcome Back, All: As I was preparing for a presentation to the marketing students from Milwaukee Area Technical College, I revisited one of my favorite personal branding books, “Me 2.0: Build a Powerful Brand to Achieve Career Success” by Dan Schawbel. In his book I stumbled across a concept that really resonated with me, and that is the link between personal branding and LinkedIn. Fistful of Talent: LinkedIn Corporate Recruiter...Will It Make You Lazy? I had the opportunity pre-holiday to chat with one of my colleagues here at FOT, specifically on sourcing strategy. I almost always background people before I chat with them, force of habit I guess (please don’t take it personally, I do it to everyone!), and it’s really to take a look at their social networking activity, see where they already source or have built some reach. This particular pal of mine uses the LinkedIn Corporate Recruiter product… and it’s interesting to note that in the last few conversations I’ve had with LinkedIn Corporate Recruiter users that their networks are still what I consider small – 200 connections or less. Why so interesting? Well, if you’ve paid and got access to all of LinkedIn, why aren’t you growing your network? What if you don’t have access? What if you do have access for a year, but don’t get to renew? What if you switch employers at some point and don’t have the luxury of having LinkedIn Corporate Recruiter at your fingertips?
