Burritos with Spanish Rice and Black Beans
About once a week, my family eats burritos for dinner. This recipe makes a great burrito filling or side dish and doesn’t take much longer than heating up a can of beans. This is a mildly seasoned dish, so you fire and spice lovers will probably want to increase the amounts of jalapeno peppers and chipotle powder. New Visions - Middle School
Are you struggling with the right balance between supporting students who are behind in their reading and writing levels and engaging all students in the content of your class? Looking for school-wide opportunities to work with your peers to focus on improving literacy skills? New Visions for Public Schools has developed a series of literacy routines that can be applied across middle school subject levels to help your students with reading, discourse, and writing. These routines provide common definitions and activities that transfer ownership of learning from teachers to students. We understand that teachers may use resources differently, so we have created and curated high-quality Open Educational Resource (OER) materials available in Google Drive; we encourage teachers to make their own copies of resources and thoughtfully modify to make them useful for their individual needs. Not sure how to start using these routines?

Communicative Competence
Posted by SpyroSpero at May 7th, 2013 If a language learner is asked what they think the goal of a language course is, they would probably answer that it is to teach the grammar and vocabulary of that language. However, if they are asked what their goal is as language learners, they would most probably answer that it is to be able to communicate in that language. I am not saying that in actuality the goal of a language course is to teach solely grammar and vocabulary — well, at least it shouldn’t be just that anymore. (I’ve been in a course with such an outdated approach, and the results were, of course, poor).
