NASA released a ton of software for free and here’s some you should try NASA has just published its 2017-2018 software catalog, which lists the many apps, code libraries and tools that pretty much anyone can download and use. Of course, most of it is pretty closely tied to… you know, launching spacecraft and stuff, which most people don’t do. But here are a few items that might prove useful to tinkers and curious lay people alike. If you’re interested in a piece of software, head to the link provided; it should provide the release or license type (some things are limited to the U.S., for instance), a contact you can hit up for more info and sometimes a dedicated site for the app or service.

Choose the Best Model If you’ve paid any attention to technology the past few years, you’ve probably noticed that the excitement around tablets has died down a bit. In response to this, Apple released its latest iPad (simply called “iPad”) in early 2017 with an entry-level price to spur new interest. The new iPad looks, feels and runs like most other iPads, except it doesn’t have all the coolest high-end features that the iPad Pro models have.

Beta Wayback Machine – Now with Site Search! For the last 15 years, users of the Wayback Machine have browsed past versions of websites by entering in URLs into the main search box and clicking on Browse History. With the generous support of The Laura and John Arnold Foundation, we’re adding an exciting new feature to this search box: keyword search! With this new beta search service, users will now be able to find the home pages of over 361 Million websites preserved in the Wayback Machine just by typing in keywords that describe these sites (e.g. “new york times”). As they type keywords into the search box, they will be presented with a list of relevant archived websites with snippets containing: a link to the archived versions of the site’s home page in the Wayback Machinea thumbnail image of the site’s homepage (when available)a short description of the site’s homepagea capture summary of the sitenumber of unique URLs by content type (webpage, image, audio, video)number of valid web captures over the associated time period

The LHC Just Discovered A New System of Five Particles A Unique Find The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex, is the most powerful particle accelerator ever built. It features a 27 kilometer (16 mile) ring made of superconducting magnets and accelerating structures built to boost the energy of particles in the chamber. In the accelerator, two high-energy particle beams are forced to collide from opposite directions at speeds close to the speed of light. The energy densities that are created when these collisions occur cause ordinary matter to melt into its constituent parts—quarks and gluons. This allows us to interrogate the basic constituents of matter–the fundamental particles of the Standard Model.

Private Search Engines that Do Not Track - MeshWorld Private Search Engines are boon to users for keeping them & their data safe. Private browsing or incognito modes in a browser does not give you the level of privacy you think of. The most discouraging fact in using the Internet is low privacy, due to which Internet suffers a lot. How Does WiFi Work?  -  8 Things You Didn’t Know About Wifi Ah, good ‘ole WiFi. From helping us to keep our phone bill low (except March, goddammit) to allowing our laptops/tablets/etc. to connect to the internet, WiFi has been a ubiquitous companion that we’ve all come to know and love. WiFi is also useful for some IoT applications (wait, what is IoT?)

Learning Myths And Realities From Brain Science This blog post has some pretty useful information. So print it out; get out your highlighter and take off the cap. Ready? Google is Quietly Recording Everything You Say Thanks to a function of their search software, Google could have years worth of your conversations recorded, and you can hear it for yourself. Your cringe-worthy history can be heard and viewed along with a list of all your searches, at your personal Google history page. The feature was built into Google’s search function as a means of delivering accurate search results. However, the sheer accuracy and amount of data Google stores is chilling. The good news is that you can turn it off and delete it, and at the end of this article, we will show you how.
