traffic.outbrain San Francisco artist Eric Bailey paints with traditional oil but his subjects and scenes are decidedly modern. Like Natalia Fabia, Bailey isn't afraid to create raw and sensual scenes filled with juxtapositions of imagery - innocence and sexiness, youth and maturity. Glamor and nature find a harmony in Bailey's complicated yet very cool work. Eric Bailey's website via [Hi Fructose] Views: 816 Tags: Eric Bailey, art, painting

Ten Anime Films You Should See Before You Die One of the most surprising, and gratifying, things that has happened since I started my blog, Tim Maughan Books, a year or so ago is the positive feedback I’ve had for the anime reviews—especially from people I know are far from being massive fanboys like myself. It’s gratifying because its part of the reason I started writing them; to try and introduce the medium to people who had never really indulged in it all, at least not past perhaps watching Spirited Away with their kids. The problem is, once you’ve had your first taste, where do you go next? Type ‘anime’ into Google and the results are bewildering, and without a little bit of guidance and a quality filter finding something to watch can be a daunting task. Akira (1988) For many of us in the west, this is the one that started it all. Ghost in the Shell (1995) My Neighbor Totoro (1988) I’ve talked at length elsewhere about how personally important My Neighbour Totoro is to me, so here I’ll try not to gush too much. Porco Rosso (1992)

THE FIGURE » Ryan Woodward | Thought of You | Official Site So why mix figure drawings in with animation? Figure drawing is a essential practice for any aspiring animator and seasoned animator for that matter. It has been since the first animators began work with Walt Disney and still today, animation studios offer figure drawing workshops in the studio. It’s not so much about the ability to render the figure accurately as it is the continual practice and understanding that there is no “right” way to draw the figure. It’s a creative exploration every time. I like to approach drawing the figure with varying degrees of creativity. Other times, I’ll let my creativity begin to flow by exaggerating the shapes, gesture, and style of the form. Sometimes I’ll even completely disregard “reality” and strive to achieve something unique to my aesthetic senses. Each drawing was done in conte on newsprint using a live model.

Erik Jones :: TheIrisOn - New Works! An Abandoned Country Estate in Yonkers Note: I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ALDER MANOR AND WEDDINGS!! I’ve tried to figure it out, but the person in charge of weddings has never called me back, and it remains a complete mystery. I receive emails daily complaining about a lack of response for weddings, and I just don’t understand the situation. Very sorry! It sits on a hill just outside of New York City, completely empty and, for years, decaying and nearly forgotten… This is Alder Manor, and it’s without question one of the most amazing places I’ve ever had the pleasure of scouting. After both he and his wife died, the mansion was traded between owners who had no use for it and eventually wound up abandoned. When you first enter, you find yourself in the enormous Main Hall, with the huge grand staircase off to one side. Reverse of the main hall. Which leads to the incredible library: Standing in the reverse corner, with a great stone fireplace and working chandeliers. A painting over the fireplace is still in excellent shape:

We'll use some relatively simple techniques to give this image a semi-realistic, stylized feel. Let's get started! Editor's note: This tutorial was originally published in July 2009. Video Tutorial Our video editor Gavin Steele has created this video tutorial to compliment this text + image tutorial. Step 1 With the main image opened, use the Clone Stamp tool to remove any unwanted entities, like the elderly couple walking. Step 2 Next you will want to cut around the edges of the roof tops so we can add in our stormy sky. Step 3 Open the Stormy Sky image and place it underneath your "backdrop" layer. Step 4 It doesn't look very nice does it? Then go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and use the settings shown below. Then go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and use these settings. Rename the layer to "Wave," and your image should now look like the one shown below. Step 5 Step 6

work - ...::: BELLINNI :::... Art Encyclopedia: Visual Arts Guide To Painting, Sculpture, Architecture: Greatest Artists, Best Museums Tape, Pencil and Resin: The Art of Brooks Salzwedel | Ape on the Moon: Contemporary Visual Arts I’m very intrigued by Californian artist Brooks Salzwedel’s unique style and approach to these delicate works, that combine nature and rigid human-made structures. It’s nice to see work that brings in different non-digital materials to what we’re used to. Using a combination of Staedler Graphite pencils ranging from 6H to 9B, tape and ‘Awful toxic resin‘, Brooks creates images that look like relics of nature and other objects frozen in time. I also love the gloomy and almost real effect that’s created by having elements between semi-transparent layers. They are also reminiscent of some of the pictures of flattened leaves you’d get in school science books. ‘When working on a piece I ask myself what images I want as the focus or in the foreground then literally draw the images on the layer that coincides with the layer in depth. ⓒ Brooks Salzweder, 2010 ‘Right now I’m working on new pieces with the use of gel mediums.
