How to cut glass I posted a picture about 1 week ago on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter of me cutting glass using just string. I got LOT’S of requests for a tutorial on how I DID THIS! So here it is. FINALLY! You will be able to learn how to cut glass. I want to warn you. It’s best to triple your yarn because it will burn longer! Soak it GOOD! I like to tie my yarn where I want my glass to “cut” then quickly pour polish remover over the string again. Get a big bowl with ice and water ready. VERY IMPORTANT! Slowly turn your bottle. Autumn Decorating: Falling Leaves Art On a recent trip to the dollar store, I came across some faux fall leaves. I picked up a couple packages thinking I would make a garland. By the time I got home I had an even better idea, a simple piece of mixed media art depicting autumn leaves falling and settling into a pile at the base of a tree. For the base, I used a cabinet door that's been sitting in the garage forever. The leaves looked a bit flat and boring, so I added some highlights with gold and silver liquid leaf. I think this piece of art fits right in with my gold gilded antlers and owl, for a beautiful and warm autumn vignette. Thanks for featuring my Falling Leaves art!

MATERIALS: wooden rectangles, pencil, fine tip paint brush, craft paints in colors of your choosing, black, and white ONE: Begin by sketching the facet lines as shown. They don't have to be perfect. TWO: Mix up six shades of the color of your choosing using black and white paint. THREE: Use the fine tip brush to carefully paint inside your sketched facet lines. DIY Picture Tiles - You Will Never Buy a Photo Frame Again | Crunchy Betty Lately I’ve been having this huge urge to decorate the house. This is big news. I do not decorate. Arguably, one of the reasons why is because I. absolutely. hate. to. buy. mass. produced. decor. (Also, I can’t ever remember if pink and purple go together or not.) Anyway, this extends to photo frames. Nope. Long story short, I discovered this method of transferring my photos cheaply, quickly, and beautifully to something uncommon and unique. Tiles. The only thing that’s not particularly crunchy about this is that it uses Modge Podge or similar (and I’m not sure what’s in Modge Podge). It’s just grainy and doesn’t dry clearly. Boo. BUT, if you can overlook that one minor issue, I think you’ll love this. And it will be glorious. Here’s how you do it. First, you need to go to Home Depot, Lowes, or something like it. (FYI, I found that Lowes prices on tiles were cheaper than Home Depot. I like the stone tiles, because they have texture. So you pick out your tiles in the sizes you want. Go go go!

Speaking of brilliant autumn colors, I’m thrilled to share this stunning maple leaf rose bouquet DIY from a fellow Kate — clay, fiber and paper artist Kate Hust. Kate first learned how to make these a few years ago from a retired art teacher in her community, and now they’ve become an annual tradition when fall rolls around. Her instructor taught her to wrap the leaves really tight, so they looked like rose buds, but Kate has modified the technique a bit to suit her own tastes: She likes to find the really big leaves and make them with large open “petals.” She’s clearly perfected the craft, and I’m so happy that she’s decided to pass the tradition on to us. DIY Friendship Bracelet For several months now, we’ve been receiving emails requesting a friendship bracelet DIY. Well, friends, ask and you shall receive! Today, we’ll give you a step by step tutorial on the classic chevron pattern. You’ll need:embroidery threada safety pin or tapea pair of scissors Start by cutting several strands of embroidery thread at about 24 inches each. Start on the left side with the outermost color (shown here in red) and make a forward knot by creating a 4-shape over the 2nd color, loop it under and back through the opening. Pull up and to the right to tighten. Now pick up the outermost color on the right side (show here in red) and make a backward knot, creating a reverse 4-shape over the 2nd color, loop it under and back through the opening. Continue knotting towards the left until the outermost strand reaches the middle. Remembering the color order is important for the first few rows but after the 3rd or 4th row, the strands will fall nicely in place.
A Little Fall Leaf Re-use Project Ok! This may look a bit familiar. While I sat brushing Mod Podge on dozens of leaves to use on my Fall wreath, I decided to light a little jar candle covered with fall leaves that I made last year to keep me company. I enjoyed the warm glow of the candlelight dancing through the leaves so much that I just had to make a bigger one! But this time I made it with the intention that it could be used the rest of the year for crafty storage! Or for storing dried peppers or dried mushrooms! I used a large, one quart jar with a two piece canning lid. This has worked so well, I am planning to make a full set of four - one for each season to use to store tea bags, Splenda packets etc. on my kitchen shelf - keeping them in rotation as candles as the seasons go by.
