The New Situation - Art in London in the Sixties Exhibition Number: L13144 This exciting exhibition will focus on the decade when British artists, many of them fresh out of art school, captured the world’s imagination, finding recognition and success both at home and abroad, in Europe and America and at the biennales of Venice and Sao Paulo. From ‘Colour-Field’ and ‘Hard-Edge’ abstraction, through to Pop in its many guises, from the New Sculpture, with its minimal aesthetic and use of industrial materials and flat colour, through to the beginning of Conceptual art, The New Situation tracks a period when British art was at the forefront of global art trends. The Aesthetics of Nation Building The artist collective GCC has been making work that is both inspired by and addresses the contemporary culture of the Arab Gulf region. Comprised of eight delegates—Nanu Al-Hamad, Khalid Al Gharaballi, Abdullah Al-Mutairi, Fatima Al Qadiri, Monira Al Qadiri, Aziz Al Qatami, Barrak Alzaid, Amal Khalaf—the GCC is named, in part, after the intergovernmental body that helps bind the region. For their inaugural series of exhibitions, the collective focused on the notion of achievement, focusing on the rituals that mark accomplishment as well as the physical objects that embody them. They have created a series of Congratulants based on trophies exchanged in the Gulf as well as videos examining ribbon-cutting ceremonies and installations that reference the spectacular cities that have been recently constructed in the region.

'Open Cube' exhibition at White Cube Mason's Yardwjlondon White Cube Mason’s Yard presents ‘Open Cube’ an exhibition of the work of 17 international artists curated by Adriano Pedrosa. These 17 artists were chosen from a total of 2900 applicants who responded to Pedrosa’s call for entries sent out via Art Agenda in January. Pedrosa’s only requirement was that the artist be available for interview in London in March. Taking his cue from Brian O’Doherty’s seminal title, ‘Inside the White Cube’ (1976), Pedrosa’s exhibition aims at dissecting the ideology of the gallery space, challenging the dominance of the white cube as a physical and conceptual exhibition space and questioning existent notions of ‘inside’ and ‘outside’. The 17 artists included in this exhibition, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal, Ireland, the UK and the USA have produced site specific work that seeks, in Pedrosa’s words, ‘to contest these national boundaries as well as the very identity of White Cube itself’.

Beats Digging Ditches - My Life as a Professional Graphic Designer Packaging to Die(line) For… To a newbie, product packaging design requirements can seem rather mysterious if not overwhelming. Besides the package design itself, there are multiple issues involving FDA and USDA requirements as well as product and category specific government rules and regulations.

The decision results from the loss of funding from a number of sources over the past 12 months. The organisation remains extremely proud of its achievements and the opportunities it has created for thousands of businesses in the region. Design Initiative has provided an active voice for the sector and through advocacy, information services and project management, has promoted the benefits of good design, worked with commissioners to secure work for designers and developed the infrastructure for design in the North West.

STAYCATION — Eric Trine Staycation is a home collection by artist/designers Will Bryant and Eric Trine. Riffing on the notes from their Alley-Oop collaboration earlier this year, Bryant and Trine have produced a series of pieces that are explicitly useful. Whereas, the objects created in Alley-Oop could be used for something, these objects exist as specific things—a chair, a lamp, a table, etc… In true Bryant and Trine fashion, they have turned this project into a game of bumper bowling, using these constraints to bounce off each other—creating ever more interesting ways to knock those pins down. The shortest distance between two points may in fact be in a line, but where’s the fun in that?

Christmas Past 2013 Time Out says Posted: Mon Sep 23 2013 One of London's prettiest attractions, tucked into a cleverly converted alms-house building, the Geffrye Museum in east London traces changes in middle-class taste in interior design from 1600 to the present day through a series of period room settings. At this time of year, a few carefully researched festive touches are added to each space: a spray of greenery here, a bauble there; nothing very flashy.
