Esme and the lane way Today I am feeling a little different... I felt like doing something I never do... my hair is straight, my lips are pale and my dress is a child's, and 1960s style. I have also answered some questions passed along to me by both q's daydream and ruby roulette unravels (thank you), something I rarely do. I enjoyed reading their answers, though, and thought that while I am having such a not-the-norm day, it might be fun.1.Where is your phone? euro(pe) The Eurosigns photo project (2004) analyses the individual meanings and the overall impact of Europe/European Union related representations. Eurosigns are business signs, advertisements, logos, hoardings, window displays and such that make use of institutional symbols of the European Union. The focus is on how SMEs link the idea of Europe either verbally or visually to their marketing. A eurosign may include a modification of the blue flag of European union with its twelve golden stars (the eurostars), the map of Europe with EU member states highlighted, the attribute "eur(o)" or the letter €, or some other visual element endorsed by the EU. Some pictures have also been collected to give a backdrop to eurobranding. The project uses photographs by myself and a multinational group of over 70 volunteer eurosignspotters to dissect the concept of Europe.

Here’s a cool technique derived from the movie poster for From Paris with Love starring John Travolta. The poster layout made very cool use of masking images with letters and shapes. Here, we’re going after a similar effect entirely in Illustrator. With so many new productivity enhancements, Illustrator CS5 is so much more robust with image compositing.
