PAP Tutorials Another concept you need to know about, before we move on, is the "Range". The Range is a part of your animation, a number of consecutive frames, which are enclosed by the Range Start and Range End markers. You use the Range for many different things. When you play back your animation with say, Play Loop [4], PAP will only play the frames inside the Range. This is so you can have a very long animation loaded, but only watch the small part you are working on at the moment. - You don't want to have to look through all animation leading up to what you need to check. The Range is also good for marking frames that you want to manipulate with functions. So how can you change the Range? If you need to quickly mark a smaller part of your animation with a range, another good way of doing so is by turning your pen around and using the eraser end to drag across the thumbnails in the X-Strip - marking frames as you would mark text in a text editor. Go ahead and try changing the Range. Fine.

The Inkling Chronicles : New forum to discuss "2D" Animation 2D or Not 2D Forum - A place to discuss all issues relating to traditional 2D animation in a digital world. Ok, ok ... it's not exactly "new" , having been in existence for about 9 months , but it's had on-again, off-again pattern of posting , sometimes going dormant for weeks at a time , so I'm trying to remind folks that it's there. If you haven't signed up for the 2D or Not 2D Forum then please come on over and have a look. Sign in and join the conversation. And hey, just to remind you of how great moving drawings can look, here's a nifty model sheet put together as reference for the animators working on the the Peter Pan sequel back when it was a production centered at Walt Disney Animation Toronto , Canada . stopit stop motion software StopIt is a free Windows application for stitching photos together into a movie file, ideal for stop motion animation and time-lapse movies. It's a fairly basic and simple application to use, so it's ideal for people who are new to stop motion animation. The application also gives you some control over the position of each individual frame enabling you to smooth out movies when there has been an accidental slight movement with the camera. You can also create stop motion animations using your web cam directly in StopIt. StopIt is not intended to be used to create the finished movie - once you have turned your photos into movies, you'll then need some editing software to add transitions and soundtrack etc. I initially wrote the application because I wanted to play with stop motion, but didn't want to pay for software only to use it once. If you've created any cool stop motion/timelapse movies with StopIt, drop me a link and maybe I'll add it to the 'Made with StopIt' page. Testimonials

By Celsys: IllustStudio-The Japanese Photoshop, or the closest you'll ever get. Thank to both of you, I am starting to see the light. I've got some clip stuff and started to get how each brush type works and what I could get of those. Here are some of my thought - pattern brush is really cool. It's a bit sad it doesn't include bleed or watercolor effect but the fact it works with multiple pattern and gives you controle on how they're dealed with is seriously good. Only TVPaint had this feature, I think. - Watercolor brush is ok. - Brush pen is hugely disappointing to me. All in all I still think that while it's better than photoshop brush wise (but what isn't ?) OTOH you gain - multiple pattern brushes- support for 6D brush so at least there's a way to have a working flat brush (SAI doesn't, big flaw).- that's all ! None of this is too bad as I think everything I need can be done efficiently. Brush apart, it's better than SAI on everything (well nearly, selection pen is missed, ok...).

Lip Sync | Tutorial Lip Sync Tutorial by AB / AvidLebon My first experience with Lip Syncing in cartoon and animation is from watching a Disney production. I think the example was Snow White, where the cartoonist looked in the mirror to remember what his mouth looked like on each syllable of Dopey's lines. Image by comet-cartoons The technique is simpler once you can reference the chart or memorize the mouth positions on different syllables. Unless your drawings are still comics rather than an animation, naturally tweening between the expressions becomes your next challenge. AvidLebon who animated all lipsyncing in her Rapture animation has provided a sample FLA file with instructions below on how to make great use of it if you are serious about animating like a professional. Lipsynching Tutorial by AvidLebon First have the soundboard open in one window, and a new document open in the other. ABSsoundboard.fla In "song" make a slash on the stage with the paintbrush. Go to the document "Sound board." Repeat.

Beginner’s music composing tips Beginner’s music composing tips: Consonance The first thing you should learn before writing music is what notes sound good together. The harmonious blending of notes is called consonance (the opposite being dissonance). You can get a feel for this by trial and error, but we’re going to take a shortcut in this article. Here is a guide showing which notes sound good with C on a piano (notes in green sound good with C, yellow fair to bad, and red is really bad): (*please note that there are more levels of consonance than what is shown here, this is just a rough guide). One thing you should notice is that most of the white keys on the piano match ‘C’, which is also a white key. You should also notice that the consonance pattern repeats every 12 notes, or every octave. It gets much more complicated than what is shown in the note guide up above. Notice that the ‘good’ notes are still the same number of keys up or down from the base note as in the original. Or this tune:
