Data Visualization Architect
For the beta release of Axiis I prepared a visualization showing the historical browser breakdown of visitors to W3schools.com. I wouldn’t consider it a useful data visualization by any stretch of the imagination (pie charts are not a great idea, and concentric pie charts… oh my!), but it does demonstrate how easy it is to get started with Axiis and build something complex in a few lines of mark-up. Since the beta release I added the ability to filter by browser type, and Tom lent his artistic eye and did a little restyling. Although the number of Axiis tutorials out there is growing steadily, there are still very few, so I’ll dive deep and explain exactly how this visualization works. Check it out here.

Green Screen – natural cooling system
The same sunlight that gives us warmth in winters feels like a curse in summers. But a single setup that helps warm sun rays enter our room during the winter season doesn’t work when one wishes to block all the sunlight during the summer time. To end such worries, a Green Screen consisting of lower grass and screen has been designed. This method has exploited the natural cooling system of nature which gives comfort similarly as light filters through trees and leaves. During summers, the screen shuts out sun-rays as the green envelops the screen by taking up moisture through gels, which helps the grass to grow, whereas during the winter season the same screen lets sunlight smother your room as the green expires, leaving your space warm and cosy. Air conditioning though is a necessity during summers but adds a lot of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

The Contemporary Hillside House by SB Architects Designed by San Francisco-based SB Architects, an international firm well-known for the design of site-sensitive resort and mixed-use projects around the world, and built by well-known green builder McDonald Construction & Development, this home is a statement of what is possible combining “high design with high sustainability.” Nestled in the hills of Mill Valley, California, just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, Hillside House has just received certification as the first LEED for Homes Platinum custom home in Marin County, and one of only a handful in Northern California. Whether you are annoyed by the ads on Pandora, the limited number of skips, or the abyss of cruel 30-second song teasers from Last.FM, many online listeners are growing weary of mainstream methods of hearing new music.
