how to make a newsboy cap this may seem like a random thing to post but i can explain. i am currently working on a historical documentary film. as half of the 2 person wardrobe department, which includes, among other things, dressing about 400 extras over 2 weeks of filming. date range from 1910-1936. whoo hoo! it's keeping me busy from roughly noon-2am for 3 weeks. here's a scene they want to recreate: and so - the newsboy caps. cut out a pattern that looks like this - essentially a large circle with a smaller one inside. i've got 22 inches across the big outside one, then within it drew a 16 inch one. folding the paper made it easier to cut the triangular wedges out. for the moon shaped piece i traced the edge of a baseball cap and it's about 3 inches across at the centre of the 'moon.' in a tweed-ish fabric, cut one of the large piece and 2 moon shapes. then cut one moon of cardboard or plastic. pin the brim pieces together and pin the large piece so each triangle cut out becomes closed again. that was easy right?

amigurumi I made this little guy as a belated birthday gift for a friend, and I thought I should post the pattern! It's a great beginning amigurumi pattern because if it comes out a little wonky it's fine, because it's a mushroom, and they're all a little wonky in real life, right? I think it would be super cute with white pins in the top too so it can me useful. I was also playing with the idea of doing a "How I Make Amigurumi" photo or video tutorial using this pattern, might be fun... Anywho, if anyone catches any errors in the pattern please let me know! Mini Mushroom Amigurumi Pattern This pattern is worked in a continuous spiral, so be sure when you need to skip stitches for decreasing that you skip the very last stitch, which will simultaneously put down the first stitch of the next round, so you'll get the correct number of stitches. Size US G7 (4.5mm) Hook, smaller is fine. Peaches & Creme or Sugar & Creme 100% cotton worsted weight yarn in cream and 191 Peppermint Small amount of batting

Crochet Tutorial: Granny Squares I fell in love to Granny Square!!! Where did the name come from? Must be related from a granny that designed and made it, I searched but can’t find, even wikipedia didn’t tell…. Granny Square is a kind of patch-working in crochet where we can literally put any color combinations we like to make it a square (or a triangle or any symmetrical shapes you can design) and patch them together to form a project. I love the flexibility it provides in design in terms of motifs, color combinations, shapes and sizes…. There are many types of granny square, from plain basic square to sunburst flower square to emboss 3D flower square… you name it….the variations are unlimited. Anyway, the one I am showing how to crochet is another variation, where I crochet double crochet [dc] in between to reduce the gap in between each dc cluster. {Get full details on next page.} Pages: 1 2 Get all updates via email: Highlights from Our Partners

DIY FRIDAY: WHITE EYELET DRESS REFASHION During the summer, I pretty much live in dresses and skirts. The problem is that most of the dresses in retail that are my style are just too short for me. But I've discovered an awesome little refashioning trick for dresses that are too short. It doesn't work for every dress, but I've done it to a ton of different dresses and and I love it. Here's the trick to adding length. Size up. Once you've sized up enough to get enough length, then comes the refashioning part -- because most likely the neckline, sleeves, waist, and darts now do not fit you. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. This dress also has a lining, but the lining is not attached to the dress at the sides, so the opening at the armpit allows them to be altered separately. Resizing the sides of the dress will make the arm hole smaller, so take in your sleeves a few inches as well so they will fit back nicely into the arm hole. Step 6. Step 7.

DIY FRIDAY: ADDING SLEEVES TO A SLEEVELESS DRESS (REFASHION TUTORIAL) These weeks are flying by -- somehow it's time for another round of DIY Friday! Lulu*s sent me this dress a few months ago, and although I totally loved it, I don't wear sleeveless tops, so it was super annoying to have to wear a jacket or a sweater over it all the time. We've been having a crazy heat wave here as well, so layers were completely out of the question. In an amazing stroke of good luck, I found a similar printed chiffon fabric at the LA fabric district, so I brought it home, lined it with some lightweight white cotton, and whipped up some sleeves for this dress. So today I want to show you have to make a simple sleeve to add to a sleeveless dress -- it's so easy! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. *Note: This Lulu*s dress has an irregular arm hole, with the little notch at the collar bone.

Melmaria Designs DIY Anthropologie Inspired Top | Melmaria Designs Let’s preface this with a little story. I hope you like reading. Once upon a time, there was a girl who used Pinterest quite a lot. She loved browsing the travel, photography, DIY, food, and hair sections. Anyway, I (okay, this story is about me) never got around to actually doing this DIY. So it inspired me to create my own shirt refashion DIY, especially after seeing these two shirts from Anthropologie. Aren’t they cute? DIY Anthropologie Inspired Top – What You’ll Need: A button-down, either from your closet or Goodwill. Wash, dry, and iron your shirt. Next, pull the shirt apart a little until you have a triangle-shaped space. Turn your shirt inside-out and pin your lace triangle to the reverse side of the shirt, lining up the lower edges evenly. Trim the lace edges and voila!

Candles By Jean - Candles You are probably wondering how we make these beautiful candles! Well, we start with a high-quality, clear slab of wax that we melt in a large wax vat. We prepare special molds with 100% cotton wicking, and then the clear, melted wax is poured into these molds. When the molded wax has hardened, it is removed from the mold. This molded center is called a core and is the heart of the candle we are about to produce. The core is then dipped between 27 and 32 times into specific wax colors, which allows the candle carving to create a beautiful pattern. The wax, while still warm, is soft and pliable, and can be carved, braided, stretched, and curled by using hard-edged knives and sculpture tools (after 12-15 minutes, the wax becomes hardened and can no longer be worked with!) We use shells, beads, wedding and anniversary invitations or announcements, pictures, and other objects to create your specially-designed candle.
