In case you missed them, here's Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, the gritty reboot that doesn't acknowledge the previous editions and Part Six. And now ... #17. These weird clouds are called rolling clouds and sometimes precede thunderstorms and a lot of soiled pants from anyone on the ground who's never seen one before. If wacky conspiracy nuts go crazy over airplane contrails, we can't wait to see them talk about the weather-control technology cloud highways that the government is using to send messages into space. #15. Who says models portray an unattainable standard for women? #14. #13. #9.

Break Out The Hanky: Tom's Got It Out For Your Tearducts hide captionWe can only assume this is the face Tom Hanks makes when watching one of his own movies. The Kobal Collection We can only assume this is the face Tom Hanks makes when watching one of his own movies. For All Things Considered's series on Men in America, we asked the guys out there: What are the movies that make you cry? Hanks was mentioned far more than any other actor and for a wider array of performances — from Captain Phillips to Philadelphia, among many others. What makes him the master emotional manipulator in Hollywood? We actually put that question to Hanks' publicist in Hollywood, but haven't heard back. Editor's Note: We're talking about the emotional climax of a lot of movies here. Forrest Gump This movie can be an emotional roller coaster at times, but there are a few scenes that were mentioned over and over again. The second, and perhaps more heart-wrenching, is Forrest's graveside speech to Jenny. "This is the only movie that's ever made me cry. Saving Private Ryan

Railroad Conductor: ‘Railroading Has Changed So Much' Monday, Sep 8, 2014, 6:00 am BY Steve Early Brian Lewis at work on the railroad. For three years in the early 1970s, journalist Studs Terkel gathered stories from a variety of American workers. In Working, Terkel interviewed Bill Norworth, a railroad worker for fifty-three years who had recently retired as a locomotive engineer on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Forty-two years later, Brian Lewis talked to In These Times about his job as a Union Pacific Railroad conductor, which he has just retired from after 36 years in the industry. It was a childhood dream to become a railroad worker. Railroading has changed so much since then. No matter how short or long your haul, the union rules required a crew of four—two brakemen, a conductor and an engineer. The big changes began in 1980, with deregulation. Fortunately, the federal government stepped in and put the brakes on the trend toward using remote control locomotives operating out of sight. Bakken crude oil is pretty damn volatile.

How to Draw a Perfect Circle - StumbleUpon Drawing is about muscle control, and muscle control comes from reps. Which is why Professor Gary, our Drawing teacher at ID school had us draw hundreds, then thousands, of cubes in perspective. And once we'd gotten those down to his satisfaction, we drew yet more cubes in perspective, then started filling the planes with ellipses. There is no shortcut, he taught. Well, turns out there is a shortcut, at least for drawing circles of a few specific sizes. Half of you will think it's clever. www.apieceofrainbow I remember one of the first paintings I made in art school : I walked by these trees with such magnificent fall colors, and ran to the classroom to tell my teacher that I simply can’t stay inside to paint the model for now! ( that now turned into ever) I had very open and supportive teachers. Very lucky! It’s fall again! This time I want to share a really fun and quick way to paint fall trees with watercolor! Even if you never painted before, you can do this in 10 minute, I promise! By the way, I did not invent these techniques, there are many wonderful artists sharing these methods on websites and in videos, so a big thank you to all of them!! Materials and tools: watercolor paper : there are many kinds of watercolor papers, some have a warm ivory tone to them, others are more white, you can compare the first and last image to see the difference. Step 1: Paint the canopy with a very thin wash of orange or yellow. Step 2: Add deeper color washes This technique is called painting on wet.

index You will need: Scissors 20 meters of string Measuring tape Start by taking three strings, each 5 meters long and mark the middle. In this case, 2.5 meters. Make a simple 3-strand braid. Fold the braid, and forming pairs with all strings, divide them into three strands. Continue the braid until you reach a length that suits you. When you are ready to make your pouch, divide the strings, three on each side. Take a fourth string and find the middle. Use the string to weave the pouch. Continue the weave. When you have finished one side of the pouch, untie the knot and proceed to the second side. Keep weaving; itís important that both pouches be the same size. This is what it will look like when you are done with both sides. Divide the strings into pairs one more time. Continue the braid. Drop a strand and continue the simple braid, this time it will be asymmetrical, but keep braiding as a 3-strand. Keep braiding while dropping one strand at a time as you go. Make a loop and pull tight. Waste not.
