Sleep May Worsen Traumatic Memories | PTSD | Sleep and Memory Sleep may not always be the best medicine. Taking a snooze shortly after witnessing a traumatic event may preserve, and even strengthen, the negative emotions tied to that unpleasant memory, a new study suggests. Researchers showed study participants a series of images, some highly unpleasant, some neutral. Participants who slept shortly after viewing the images were more likely to rate them just as disturbing — if not more so — when they saw the images again, compared with participants who stayed awake. The results contrast with previous research suggesting that sleep, being an overall beneficial activity, reduces the negative emotional tone of a memory. The study could have profound implications for preventing post-traumatic stress disorder, the researchers said. "From a clinical standpoint, insomnia following trauma might not necessarily be bad," said study lead author Rebecca Spencer, a psychologist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Simply Vintagegirl Blog & Blog Archive & Tutorial: How to Make Lovely Fabric Flowers - StumbleUpon 29 May 2010 These elegant fabric flowers are very simple to make . . . and only take a few basic supplies. The finished product is delightfully lovely, and at times can look like a real flower! Every flower will turn out differently and that is part of the beauty! If you haven’t used those tea lights in a while, now’s the time! Supplies: · Synthetic Silky Fabric · Scissors · Candle (preferably a tea light) Additional supplies: · Needle and Thread, Glue Dots or Glue Gun · Buttons and/or Beads Directions: 1. Make the largest one’s diameter about half an inch larger than you want the diameter of the flower, as the petals will end up shrinking a bit. 2. You can also cut around the pattern and skip the drawing part, it just might not be as uniform . . . but with these, uniform isn’t necessary. 3. Cut just inside the drawn lines to make a circle out of the fabric. 4. Be very careful (please have adult supervision, this is rather dangerous), as it is very easy to get burnt. 5.

Simply Vintagegirl Blog & Blog Archive & A Homemade Christmas - #1 - Practical Perpetual Calendar 23 October 2008 Welcome to the first A Homemade Christmas! This is week One of Ten (you don’t have to enter in each one). I hope you’ll join us in sharing about homemade gifts that you have received or made — past, present, and future! This calendar will last a very long time, which makes it a great gift. It has a bit of a vintage look to it. Each date is put together with decoupage glue (we use Mod Podge) with the scrapbook paper in the background, and the numbers stuck down on top of that. To make the holes, I took a piece of vellum and cut it out the same size and the background paper. I laid the vellum template on top of each finished date, and marked (with a permanent) the spot where the hole was to be. My wonderful daddy put holes in the tin lids, and cut out the months. The months are actually cut-outs from the sides of large tin cans (you can slightly see the ripples in the middle). Have you made or received any homemade gifts? A Homemade Christmas Participants
