Homemade Calzone

Homemade Calzone
I wanted to make something to take on the road, but the contents of the refrigerator were saying PIZZA. Hmmm... pizza is not so portable. Then I remembered CALZONE! Calzone is basically the same as pizza but with a much prettier appearance. Roll pizza dough into a rectangle the length of your baking sheet. Put sauce on the center half of the dough. Just like pizza, add your toppings (our favorites are pepperoni, olives, and mushrooms). Then add cheese. Now comes the special part. This is what it looks like when all the cuts are made. Then "wrap the baby." Here is the calzone ready to bake. Uh oh... don't do what I did. For the second one, I remembered to start with my rectangle of dough ON a baking sheet. By the way, the same dough wrapping technique can be used for sweet fillings too.

Dori Fruit-Filled Puff Pastry Donuts with Lemon Glaze Fruit-Filled Puff Pastry Donuts with Lemon Glaze There seems to be this sudden craze for homemade donuts in the food blogging world, and it’s got me craving them BAD. Bombs I thought I would share one of our favorite family recipes. At our house, we call them Bombs. They are basically a soft roll with yummy filling inside. To make Bombs, start with a loaf's worth of bread/roll dough. You can use any recipe for the dough (or buy frozen bread dough...which I think is the biggest rip-off on the planet), but this is the recipe I use. 2 TBSP sugar 1 tsp salt 4 cups flour, approximately 2 tsp. yeast 1 1/8 cup warm water* 1/8 cup powdered milk* 1/4 cup butter 1 egg * If you don't have powdered milk, you would add 7/8 cup milk and 1/4 cup water instead of the water and powdered milk suggested in the original recipe. Add all ingredients to bread machine in order listed. If you do not have a bread machine, you can make this in a stand mixer (like a KitchenAid). Next you will need the filling. Place about 4 tablespoons of filling ingredients in the center of each dough circle. Bring edges up around the filling and pinch to seal the dough.

no-bake energy bites I probably should have poured a nice stiff drink recipe for you all on this loveliest of lovely tax days. Especially for my fellow small business owners who just gave half of their revenue back to the government. Good grief, I won’t even go there. Instead though, I thought I’d offer my idea of a more comforting alternative. Pasta. When life is good, and when life gets crazy, I turn to pasta. And just as it has for years, this one hit the spot. Braided Spaghetti Bread » The official blog of America's favorite frozen dough We are carb lovers at our house, so when I saw the Braided Spaghetti Bread recipe in the Rhodes Home Baked Family Favorites with frozen dough cookbook I knew we would love it. This is a really simple recipe; it just takes a little planning for thawing the dough. It will take 2-3 hours for the bread loaf to thaw to room temperature or 1-2 hours for the rolls to thaw to room temperature. You will need: 1 Loaf Rhodes Bread Dough or 12 Rhodes Dinner Rolls, thawed to room temperature6 oz spaghetti, cooked 1 cup thick spaghetti sauce 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2 –inch cubes 1 egg white Parmesan cheese Parsley flakes Spray counter lightly with non-stick cooking spray (or use parchment paper). Roll loaf or combined dinner rolls into a 12x16-inch rectangle. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Remove wrap from dough. Make cuts 1 ½-inches apart on long sides of dough to within ½-inch of filling. Begin braid by folding top and bottom strips toward filling. This was fantastic!

Cheesy Garlic Sticks All righty. Cheesy Garlic Sticks. I make them all the time. They are delicious, they only take a handful of ingredients, and often they are filling enough to make a meal out of on the cheap. I've tried a bunch of little tweaks to come up with what I think is the most delicious recipe for Cheesy Garlic Sticks. I don't make my own pizza dough. When you get your dough, it may need to be 'proofed', which just means it may need to rise. Next up for me to decide on was the type of cheese. After that, I grabbed a spoon and my jar of minced garlic from the fridge (I know, I know, but I love that stuff), I drizzled just a little bit of the garlic infused oil on the pizza, as well as some of the minced garlic itself. I've also added dried garlic powder to this, in addition to the garlic oil / minced garlic, to make it extra potent. All in all, I thought it tasted fantastic. Crispy Southwest Chicken Wraps Update 6/2012: Taken after the model of these delicious wraps, I threw these together for dinner one night nearly three years ago in a frantic attempt to feed my hungry family and use ingredients I already had on hand. And the result was such a smashing success that we’ve continued to enjoy this recipe at least monthly since (and that’s saying a lot coming from the lady who doesn’t repeat many meals). Full of flavor, these wraps are a snap to make. The method turns out a delightfully crunchy tortilla that is filled with rice, chicken, beans, spices and cheese. Crispy Southwest Chicken Wraps Note: This is one of the most adaptable recipes on here (reading through the comments will prove that – your variations sound amazing!). Parmesan Chicken Manicotti I went to bed at 4:30 in the morning… I just could not sleep! My husband traveled alone yesterday and got home at around 2 and after he came home, we just started talking and went to bed pretty late. He got into a little accident yesterday going to a wedding and man, we were just so upset about it. But now, I feel more at peace and believe that every cloud has silver lining. One of things that sure puts me in a better mood is yummy food. And I’m so glad I decided to experiment a little! Cook manicotti shells according to package instructions. This recipe is sufficient for 7 manicotti shells – double the recipe if you’re planning to make more. Mix it all together until well mixed. Stuff each manicotti with about 1/4 cupful of the mixture carefully so that the manicotti doesn’t tear. To make the sauce; you will need a can of Italian style crushed tomatoes. Transfer stuffed manicotti into a baking pan that is sprayed with cooking spray. Top with 6-8 basil leaves. Parmesan Chicken Manicotti
