Wands can be made from a variety of materials, after all Hagrid used an old umbrella as a wand! Yours will be made from paper. But do not be deceived it will be every bit as magical as the real wands used in the film, and if you make it carefully will look just as good. . . . Because glue is used on the paper to harden it, this wand is a made of a type of papier mache. You can paint your want in any colour you want, and the instructions show you how to make you wand look distressed (that is a technical term that furniture makers use to describe the process of artificially aging an item), and really ancient; fit for Harry Potter himself. . . .

dreamcatchers | {tutorial} I’m really diggin the whole hippy thing. And while Craig is quick to correct me on the fact that dream catchers are not hippy-ish, I still think of them that way. Natural, care free, simple. All things I relate to those old hippies. hah. The point of a dream catcher is to weed out bad dreams. Depending on who you talk to, there will be two different stories on how this happens. This is not a traditional Native- American dream catcher. What I used: Embroidery Hoop Yarn (or twine, hemp… whatever you have on hand) Beads Feathers Thread Felt Hot Glue Gun Want to make one too?? Grab your embroidery hoop, leave it as is, or wrap it up like I did. Take your webbing yarn and form a loop at the top, this will be where you dreamcatcher hangs from. The webbing is the same stitch through out. Pull tight and repeat. For your second (and every other row), use the same stitch, but instead of going over the hoop, go through the string: Keep going until the hole in the middle is to your liking.
Song Lyric Wall Art / D.I.Y. Project A couple weeks ago, I found a paint-by-number at an unbeatable price. I can't pass these things up even though I already owned this particular design. I thought that I could maybe use it to make a fun D.I.Y., but my new rule is that all thrifts that I purchase with the intent of restyling need to get done right away. I have way too many half finished projects in my life. With that little bit of motivation I came up with a fun D.I.Y. to display some of my favorite song lyrcis in our newlywed home. Enjoy.... Super quick and easy tutorial for you today. I have a drawer full of these and use them for everything - bills, letters, you name it...my mom does too, actually! I recently received an oversized catalog for baby strollers (why? To start just pull pages out of your catalog or magazine with images you love. Other supplies you'll need: Pencil Glue - glue stick or craft glue - whichever you prefer Old envelope or envelope template. If this is a project you see yourself recreating in the future or with other papers you could invest in an envelope template kit, or you can print templates (you'll need to print at 100% on a larger format printer) from Designer's Toolbox on a heavy stock (mount to board for a longer lasting template). Trace the shape of your envelope onto the page, finding the position that you prefer on the image/page. Next, cut out along the lines. Happy re-purposing!
Project 30 Week 30 – Circular Paint Chip Art Happy Mother’s Day!! I am so excited, because with this post I will have successfully completed my 30x30x3 journey, and on time too! I couldn’t be happier with the projects I’ve completed, and I can’t wait to keep going with some new projects, and maybe some new features as well. For now I have some really fun new paint chip art, created from different sized circles. I know I’ve posted paint chip art before, but that technique was so different from this one I felt these pieces deserved their own post. All of these pieces are created from circles of three different sizes, 1 1/2″, 1″ and 1/2″. I started experimenting with using a singular color palette, as you can see in this turquoise version, and I think it is a fun variation. This may not have been the project I was planning, but it certainly has quite a celebratory look (especially those small ones, they remind me of confetti!) Curling Ribbon Coasters Years ago when I was a college student, I had a part time job in a card store. One day on the job, I was fiddling with the curling ribbon we used for balloons. As I twisted and curled it in my fingers, I found myself rolling it into a tight spiral. As it grew and I added more colors, I soon realized I had a really cool design forming, and without too much effort I would have a spiral of color large enough to use as a coaster. I bought some rolls of ribbon and that weekend I sat down and made several fun coasters by carefully coiling the ribbon around itself. Ever since then, whenever I get balloons or gifts that are tied with curling ribbon, I save the ribbon in a special box in my craft room. Selecting the ribbon You probably haven’t been saving up used curling ribbon from balloons and packages (not yet, anyway), so you might need to buy some new ribbon to start on this project. Winding the ribbon Now for the fun part. You can see a lot of potential fun here with patterns and colors.
