Follow this tutorial to build a vector based repeating pattern of your own, featuring trendy graphics of skulls, stars, lightning bolts and other cool pop imagery. The pattern we’ll be creating has a mono colour scheme of grey, white and black and features a bunch of cool graphics. Create an Abstract Design with Patterns in Photoshop I've just finished up another little digital art experiment where I set out to build something cool and abstract out of Photoshop patterns and simple shapes. Follow this walkthrough as I take you through the steps I took to recreate this detailed design with nothing more than gradient and pattern effects. The design itself is made up of a range of concentric circles, with each group varying in size. Each circle is given a base colour from 6 core swatches, then gradients and pattern fills add detail and depth. Before getting into the main design, we'll need to create our pattern fills. Hold ALT while clicking the dragging the circle to make a duplicate. Make three more copies and move each one to the remaining corners of the canvas. Create a new document, but this time draw two black squares that take up a quarter of the canvas. Let's get to work on the overall piece of artwork. Import a suitable colour palette, this particular one is sourced from ColourLovers.

Preview The first thing to do is to resize the photo to your desired output size. Next we need to drop out the background, fix any problems and prepare the photo for the filters. Now we are finished with our basic image adjustments, it's time to apply the filters. Load your Layer Mask as a selection (hold down the Apple key and click the Layer Mask) and Copy Merged (Apple-Shift-C), then Paste into a new layer. Select the bottom layer of the three and apply the 'Poster Edges' effect from the Filter Gallery. On the next layer up, apply the 'Accented Edges' effect.

9 Photoshop Editing Tips Web Developers Should Know There are quite a few reasons why having basic Photoshop skills beyond slicing PSD’s to XHTML/CSS is essential to any web developer. I have discussed some of those reasons in this article on my blog, but to make a long story short, there are times when you just need to do minor image editing tasks but don’t want to hassle your web designer for it.
