
not martha - Leprechaun Trap Cake This may look like a perfectly innocent cake meant to lure a leprechaun to the top but it has a few secrets. Secret #1: Beneath the pile of gold coins are fragile bars, when the leprechaun approaches to grab the coins he’ll fall into the pit and be trapped. Secret #2: There is a rainbow hiding inside the cake. The leprechaun will discover this as he eats his way to freedom. Have you heard of Leprechaun traps? I decided that my angel food cake pan, with the hole in the middles, would make an excellent shape for a leprechaun trap. To read the complete how-to for this cake please click on MORE. To form the rainbow in this cake I used the method shown here at Omnomicon which is very simple — separate your cake batter, color each section, then pour it into your cake pan one color on top of the next. You can see this effect in the image above from Omnomicon, the color poured in last is much more prominent than the color that went first, which is squeezed and spread around the bottom. Notes:

Fried Ice Cream I'm sure you are thinking about Cinco de Mayo this very minute. You should be because it's in two days. We look for any excuse to celebrate. We look for any excuse to celebrate with food. I'd share a recipe for deep fried ice cream. This would be considered one of my "BIGS". You will need a good quality Vanilla ice cream, corn flakes, flaked coconut and cinnamon. I just happen to find New Simply Cinnamon Corn Flakes. You can, of course, use regular corn flakes. You will need to make 5 scoops of ice cream from a quart size container. Drop the scoops of ice cream onto a baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Let me tell you what you don't have time for...PICTURES. The ice cream melts too fast. Put the corn flakes in a plastic bag. Pound the corn flakes with a rolling pin or crush the corn flakes anyway you'd like...just crush them. Put the crushed corn flakes into a shallow bowl. Add 1 cup coconut. Add one tablespoon cinnamon. In shallow bowl add 2 eggs and 1 tablespoon milk. Fried Ice Cream 2 eggs
Rainbow Cake in a Jar I’ve always had a penchant for sunshine in a jar. Doesn’t the very phrase itself, “sunshine in a jar,” roll off your tongue and fill your mouth with magic? While I’ve never yet found myself a sunshine in a jar, I think we may have just concocted it in our kitchen tonight. In this simple recipe, a basic white cake is turned into a slew of bright colors, baked to perfection, then topped with a creamy white frosting. Cakes baked in jars can be topped with traditional metal canning lids and stored in the fridge for up to five days. Blackberry Cobbler Waffles Waffles are totally underrated. They get a bad rap as pancakes’ not-quite-as-fluffy and not-quite-as-simple ugly cousin, with nooks and crannies just deep enough that the glob of butter won’t melt and a front left quarter that frequently hogs all the syrup. I mean, really. Waffle irons are kind of a pain. As if I don’t have enough pots, pants, mixers, bowls, lids, quesadilla makers, toasters, platters and other necessary items that I use twice a year, you’re telling me that I need to find a uniquely shaped space, somewhere between my cupcake-shaped cake pan and my never used must-have All Clad asparagus pot, for a 13-pound waffle maker that I might drag out on occasion? Yes. I would’ve been positively devastated if I didn’t get that asparagus pot, by the way. Pancakes were much more accessible and commonplace when I was younger, so when it came time to register for wedding gifts, I was over the moon to spy a waffle iron and add it to the list. Which is what I’ve used the waffle maker for.
Rainbow Doodle Birthday Cake I hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with feasting, family, and friends. I know we certainly did! We celebrated Easter as well as our little Reese’s 4th birthday. On Saturday we went to “The County,” where Grant grew up, to visit his dad (Grandpa), step-mom Kathy (Grammy), and family at the farm. When Reese first saw the Rainbow Cake on Whisk Kid’s blog, she fell in love with it, and rightfully so–this cake is a kid’s dream come true with its 6 vibrant rainbow-coloured layers and tons of buttercream! I told Kaitlin that I think the fact that she left her buttercream Rainbow Cake white on the outside was complete brilliance and perfectly executed. What I absolutely love about this cake is the element of surprise and the wow-factor, when the first piece is cut and served. Here’s our little birthday girl full of love, laughter, and life . . . Just sitting around being cute and, well, four. An unexpected birthday highlight at the farm was driving Grandpa’s tractor for the first time.
