Pour utiliser un service web, son image, son logo ou ses boutons de partage, il y a des règles à respecter. La plupart des services web ne permettent pas l’utilisation de logos ou boutons « fantaisistes » et exigent l’utilisation des ressources officielles. Cela permet une image uniformisée et c’est légitime de la part des marques. Seulement, pour trouver les logos et ressources graphiques d’Instagram, de Spotify, de Facebook, de Tumblr, de WordPress ou des centaines de services dont vous aurez potentiellement besoin, la tâche s’avère fastidieuse. One man, 100,000 toothpicks, and 35 years: An incredible kinetic sculpture of San Francisco
Thirty five years ago I had yet to be born, but artist Scott Weaver had already begun work on this insanely complex kinetic sculpture, Rolling through the Bay, that he continues to modify and expand even today. The elaborate sculpture is comprised of multiple “tours” that move pingpong balls through neighborhoods, historical locations, and iconic symbols of San Francisco, all recreated with a little glue, some toothpicks, and an incredible amount of ingenuity. He admits in the video that there are several toothpick sculptures even larger than his, but none has the unique kinetic components he’s constructed. I have used different brands of toothpicks depending on what I am building. See the sculpture for yourself at the Tinkering Studio through the end of June. Update: Rolling Through the Bay has been moved to the American Visionary Art Museum through September 2012.

Scribbled Wire Sculptures Mysteriously Appear to Float
Sculptor David Oliveira wrote to us to tell us about his very interesting wire sculptures. At first glance, it seems as though someone has just scribbled ink drawings on top of existing photos. In reality, the Lisbon-born artist who has a degree in Sculpture and a Masters in Artistic Anatomy from the Lisbon Faculty of Fine Arts, twists and turns wire until he creates figures and objects. How does his background play into his work? "The spectator has a very important role, because in order to see, he has to fill the empty spaces with his own memories, creating a bond with the sculpture and his own life experiences." Adding to the intrigue, mysteriously, some of these pieces look like they're actually floating.
