DIY: framed jewelry displays i’m sure you will all be surprised to hear that i have a lot of jewelry… i know, shocking! so when you have as much as i do, it’s hard to organize it! but these ideas that i scrounged from the web are great DIY jewelry organization options all using one of my favorite things: picture frames! – also, check out my own DIY Jewelry Tree here! Framed Lace Jewelry Display What You Need: empty framelace ribbonstrong glue (like e6000), and/or staple gunornament hooks – to hang necklaces, bracelets etc. – silver ones herehammer and nail Do It: cut lengths of your lace ribbon to stretch along the back of your frame – making sure they reach the flat wood on either sides of the back of the frame.glue or staple your lace pieces to the back of the frame – making sure they’re nice and taught so the weight of your jewelry doesn’t sag it too much.hang it on your wall using a hammer and nail and use the ornament hooks to hang your necklaces and bracelets! clay jewelry dishes This is one of those projects I started just to have fun, never expecting to create something I truly loved! They are little dishes to hold jewelry, coins, keys, etc. Just in time for Mother's Day? I've never really worked with clay. I played with texture plates, and background stamps, and individual stamps... I challenge you to try working with a new crafting material or technique. Screen Printing your own T shirts with Freezer Paper You've probably seen this sprinkled around the web on various blogs and how-to sites. But, Meg and I thought we'd try our hand at it. What's so nice about this project is, you can make just about any image you want (depending on what you want to tackle), its cheap and even kids can get involved. Come along for the ride, there are tons of photos to help you if you decide to make your own t shirt. What you'll need... ~freezer paper (not wax paper or parchment) cut into 8.5x11" to fit into your printer ~fabric paint (got mine at Joann's Fabric store, they were 50% off...woo!) for the first step, you'll need to find an image you'd like to use. With an X acto knife, cut out the part of the image that you want to become the painted part...in a sense, turn it into a stencil. Place your cut out onto your t shirt wherever you'd like it to be. Now, with a dry iron (heated up to the highest setting for the type of fabric your t shirt is), iron your image down. And finished!

Especially when that nasty gremlins try to creep in and stump me. I remembered this origami star video on You Tube and had to get them involved in my plan. I thought it would be fun to make a whole bunch with kind words and “you are….” phrases inside. I used 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper and cut 1/2 x 12″ strips, then followed the video HERE*. *UPDATE! Earring embroidery ring tutorial I honestly don't have a ton of earrings here in Korea, but recently I purchased a few pairs and they have been very unhappily clumped in a teeny weeny zipper bag. They don't like me very much for this - so I have decided to give them a place where they can dangle freely. This is just a basic tutorial to show you what I did - I hope that this will inspire you to draw your own design and make something amazing. If you would prefer to use my drawing then you can get the template here :) What you will need: A base piece of fabric - the size depends on the size of your embroidery ring. (my ring is only 15.5cm in diameter because I don't have many earrings) A template/ drawing of a design fabric scraps (cotton/felt) embroidery thread Before you start make sure that your picture is smaller than your embroidery ring (seems like a silly instruction but its a mistake that you don't want to make :) Iron the fabric on to the iron-on adhesive, trace/copy your pieces and cut them out. A bit of green :: Crafts :: Plastic Cup Lamp Now that my university is closed for winter holidays, I finally have more free time to do all the crafty things I’ve been wanting to. One of these is a lamp made from plastic cups I’ve seen at taf, the art foundation, in the Monastiraki region in the center of Athens. When I first saw it at taf, I was amazed; I looked closely and I couldn’t believe my eyes! The object itself is so peculiar, modern and alien-like it could be in any design exhibition. With my best friend’s birthday coming up, I decided to make it myself and give it to her as a gift. Disclaimer: There have been some concerns about the safety of this construction (see the comment of user “when” below for example). I only needed a couple of things: 200-250 large plastic cups (recyclable, at least )600-700 staplesa staplera lamp socket, lamp cord and plug – mine came from a broken IKEA lamp! That’s all you will need. Start stapling the cups together as shown. Staple again and again and again… Until your lamp goes from this…
Do-it-Yourself DIY String Wedding Lanterns Yarn Chandeliers Jessica of Wednesday Inc shows us how to make those gorgeous twine chandeliers from the inspiration shoot she shared with us this morning. Using balloons, glue and twine, you can also make these lanterns for your wedding – and then bring it home and use it as your very own mid century lampshade. What you will need are: balloons, glue, yarn, tray for glue, corn starch 1/2 cup of Corn starch, 1/4 cup of Warm water, clear fast drying spray paint, hanging lamp cord or fishing line (depending on your desired final product), and a lighting kit if you’re looking for a fully functional lantern. Jessica recommends using a sharpie to mark on the inflated balloon how much room you need to leave for the lighting cord. She also recommends coating the balloon with vaseline prior to wrapping the yarn coated with glue so it doesn’t stick on the balloon once it’s dry. You can see all the details on Jessica’s blog. How To Make A Stylish Photo Frame For Several Photos Here is a simple yet stylish photo frame that can accomodate quite many photos at once. The idea is very simple. Fasten twines on the empty frame and hang photos using clothes pins on them. You can use a frame you bought or a frame you made by yourself. To make it you just need to find some wood strips, sand them, paint or stain them and fasten together with the staples and nails. How I Turned A Picture Into An Embroidery Pattern I really love the Sublime Stitching patterns by Jenny Hart. Her motto is "Not your grandmother's embroidery!" There are so many fun patterns. The flickr group is loaded with eye candy. However the other night I had the itch to stitch right then and there. This pin up cowgirl was my starting photo. From there, I clicked on the "Edit" tab and chose "Exposure." The result was this. to transfer my pattern to the fabric. To do the Citra-Solv transfer I taped my photocopy print side down to my fabric. on it and rubbed it all over the design. Voila! I had a lot of fun changing up the colors for this design.
