Product Launch 101 This is the story of what happens in a typical product launch. Fellow entrepreneurs and people interested in the business side of what I do will be interested; others probably won’t. I’m going to outline a few of the things I’ve learned in doing product launches over the years. With AONC I’ve done six of them so far (including the two non-commercial manifestos), but before that, I worked on dozens of others in my first decade of self-employment. The Basic Principle My friend Havi gave me the analogy that launching a product is like having a child. When they say, “Oh, if the morning’s not good, how about the afternoon?” The point is that a good product launch is a) a big deal, not just something that happens every day, and b) something that requires a great deal of work behind the scenes. Messaging The single most important principle of product launches is to make them special. Then on the big day, the message is, “It’s finally ready! 2- Tire-kickers who just want to see what you’re doing.

With cloud services, small businesses reap the benefits of not having to deploy physical infrastructure like file and e-mail servers, storage systems or shrink-wrapped software. Plus, the "anywhere, anytime" availability of these solutions, means hassle-free collaboration among business partners and employees using the ubiquitous browser. Cloud services also provide entrepreneurs, SOHOs, and mom-and-pop outfits access to sophisticated technology without the need of an IT consultant or tech worker on the payroll. In fact, it's not a stretch to say that aside from a locally installed desktop operating system and browser (or increasingly, from a single mobile device) a lot of today's small business technology needs can be fulfilled almost completely with cloud-based offerings. Second, cloud computing is a broad umbrella under which many sub-divisions fall.
How to start a business that works The most important thing I learned in business school is this: Most businesses fail. Not because the product wasn't any good (in many cases the product is amazing). They failed because not enough people knew about it. In fact, 6 months with Seth Godin has made me realize that not only is marketing important, it's pretty much everything. If you want a high likelihood for success, start by picking a business or product that lends itself to great marketing. Well, luckily I've created a set of 4 marketing questions that can help you. So, if you're serious about starting a new business or developing a new product for an existing business, here's what I want you to do: First, read the 4 questions and their explanations below (and it wouldn't hurt to read the books I reference either)Come up with a list of 50 business ideas (sound like alot? Ready? Does your business lend itself to virality? Everybody wants their product or brand to go viral. Does your service create an emergency?
Dyslexia Makes Great Entrepreneurs A new film airing tonight on HBO2 examines the role of dyslexia in the lives of successful entrepreneurs and corporate leaders around the world. The film, Journey into Dyslexia, directed by Alan and Susan Raymond, presents several prominent dyslexic adults including Ben Foss, inventor of the Intel Reader; Steve Walker, New England Wood Pellet founder and CEO; and Carol Greider, Ph.D., a 2009 Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine. They're in good company. Richard Branson, Charles Schwab, Ted Turner, and Cisco CEO John Chambers are all dyslexic. Even Henry Ford had the disorder. "Are these people more visionary, can they see things differently?" The correlation betweeen dyslexia and entrepreneurship has long been a subject of scientific inquiry. When Time magazine asked Richard Branson, the media mogul and founder of Virgin, whether his dyslexia hindered his businesses abilities, Branson had a pointedly candid response.
