Sweet Shop Automata | Keith Newstead Automata My original design. To make the base,I bend galvanised wire to shape and place it on a jig. Then the pieces are soldered together (this is one of two sides) The two sides are joined together. The wheels of the flying machine will rest on these wooden rollers. The wheels are made by first gluing metal spokes into a wooden hub One side of the wheel rim is placed into a jig. The spokes are trimed and the second rim is sokdered into place These parts make up the body of the flying machine The wheel supports, made from bronze and galvanised wire Here are all the parts put together. The old lady's chair is made from thin ply which has been steam bent. The parts that make up the old lady The old lady in her chair. The old lady and chair. fitted in place These three cams will be fixed on the front axle and will operate the flying saucers The flying saucers are attached to the cams by thin wires. This linkage moves the body of the old lady These drive belts will turn the propellor (not yet made)
untitled Thanks to Rowland Scherman and Dave Scherman - Tom's brothers - you will discover a very rare document, Tom's scrap book that he did when he created a Nautilus decor in his Los Angeles apartment in 1966. Only one copy of this book exists, the one that Tom did to keep pictures of the whole transformation from the renderings to the final result. From the cover to the last page of this fantastic document, each page of Tom's book is here. And I also did scans of each page most interesting pictures. You must click on each picture to see them in big size as Tom himself details each step of this amazing creation. Pictures: copyright Tom Scherman & Rowland Scherman.
Remarkable Collection of Steampunk Sculptures | DesignNO.com Continuing the theme of Steampunk – Unique Steampunk Insects – we want you to show the remarkable collection of Steampunk characters, engines and vehicles created by Belgian artist Stephane Halleux. For a long time Stephane worked as an illustrator and drew cartoons in his spare time. In recent years he became interested in steampunk style and the creation of unusual sculptures. About his work, he says: “I like crazy mixtures, unlikely associations, advanced technology mixed with mechanisms of long ago. I’ve always been fascinated by robotics, its advantages and contradictions.” While creating these sculptures Stephen used leather, metal, wood pulp and recycled materials.
