What is in our collection We hold three types of map, which you choose between by selecting one of the thematic tabs: Topographic maps: These are general purpose maps showing the physical landscape: hills and valleys, rivers and coast, plus man-made features like settlements, roads and railways. How we store our map collection We hold maps in two quite different forms, each with its own viewer: As individual SHEETS: All the maps in our collection are held as digital images of the complete sheet, including all the information around the edges. Finding and viewing seamless maps Most of our seamless maps are grouped into one of three layers, each one including coverages at two or three different scales.
Fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet pour la Vocation My jubilee heroes: Never mind the right-on BBC list - here are 60 truly great 'Elizabethans' By Max Hastings Published: 23:19 GMT, 24 May 2012 | Updated: 11:43 GMT, 25 May 2012 The BBC has set out to choose 60 people who have influenced the Queen's long reign - but who is truly worthy of inclusion? This week in the Mail, I described how I writhed and wriggled as an oft-outvoted member of the BBC’s panel to choose 60 ‘New Elizabethans’ to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. This prompted the obvious question: who would be on my personal list of people who have most ‘influenced the reign for better or worse’ since 1953? For a start, my rules for admission would have been quite different from the BBC’s. The BBC originally intended its list should be those people who have ‘illuminated’ the Queen’s reign. I am sure that when another such list is compiled a generation hence, many more women will appear, because they now play a far more prominent role in our society. 50 Shades of Grey – The Ageing UK Workforce [Infographic] - Unum 50 Shades of Grey – The Ageing UK Workforce [Infographic] Over the last 30 years, the shape of the UK workforce has changed significantly. One undeniable trend is that people are working longer. The number of people working past retirement age has almost doubled in the last 20 years. According to the Office for National Statistics those working past state pension age, 65 for men and 61 for women, are more than twice as likely to be working part time as the general population. Reasons Behind the UK’s Ageing Workforce There several reasons behind the ageing UK workforce. People Expect to be Working for a Longer Proportion of Their Lives While employees no longer expect to be with the same company for life, there is also an expectation that they will be working long past 65. Your Older Employees Are Valuable Despite a baby boom in the last few years, older workers will be making up a greater percentage of the workforce in the future.
