Summer Recipe: White Peach-Lavender Soda What does one do when one receives a gift of perfect and oh-so-fragrant lavender from a friend's garden? If one is like me and has just finished writing a book of homebrewing projects and suddenly has free time to play with recipes not going into the book, one naturally thinks about making soda. Lavender became a bit of a nemesis when writing True Brews. But contemplating my bounty of lavender last week, I figured that a soda would be safe. The white peaches and white nectarines are phenomenal right now. And they were. I didn't intend or expect that lovely pink color either. White Peach-Lavender SodaMakes about 4 to 6 servings (enough to fill a recycled 1-liter soda bottle) 1 cup water, plus more to fill the bottle 3/4 cup sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lavender flowers (1 tablespoon dried lavender flowers) 1 pound very ripe white peaches 1 tablespoon lemon juice Pinch salt 1/4 teaspoon champagne yeast or baker's yeast Need: one clean 1-liter plastic soda bottle with screw-on cap Notes:
Red Velvet Hot Cocoa with Cream Cheese Whipped Cream It seems like recently, my diet has consisted wholly of hot chocolate, soups and my any type of salad topped with my favorite new green apple vinaigrette (recipe soon)! Seriously though, I've been sipping on hot chocolate or some kind of homemade latte every other day, if not every day. This is probably because of my innate need for all things holiday to consume me. I'm the kind of girl who loves her winter weather. Anyways, along with Christmas music, this red velvet hot chocolate is all I need to keep me warm on these cold Californian nights. Red Velvet Hot Cocoa with Cream Cheese Whipped Cream Yields: 4 servings 4 cups whole milk 1 dash water 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips1/4 cup sugar 1 tsp. red food coloring 1 cup heavy whipping cream 2 - 4 tbsn. whipped cream cheese, room temperature In a stand mixer, combine the heavy cream and sugar.
Creamy White Chicken and Artichoke Lasagna I made this for Saturday's dinner this week and it was very creamy and yummy!! It was a nice change from your standard lasagna (even though I absolutely love that too). It was really easy for me as well because I used canned everything so all I had to do what dump and mix ingredients. Ingredients 2 cups shredded cooked chicken breasts 1 can (14 oz.) artichoke hearts, drained, chopped 1 pkg. (8 oz.) Directions HEAT oven to 350°F. Gluten free: GF noodles. Original recipe from tasteofhome.com Chocolate Soup for Two Valentine's day is exactly one month away and I'm elbow deep in chocolate recipes. I've been searching for ideas and inspiration for sweet, edible tokens of affection. Recently while watching a food show on TV, I saw chocolate soup being served at a popular chocolate bar/buffet. Patrons were proclaiming their love (between slurps of soup) for the warm, velvety smoothness and rich chocolaty flavor. In my search I've found so many variations on chocolate soup, I didn't know which one to try! I wanted to lighten the soup without compromising the richness or velvety texture. I used Ghiradelli semisweet baking chips, but the variations on this recipe are as numerous as there are varieties of chocolate. This dessert should be served warm. I think this would be an excellent Valentine's day dessert to share with someone special, even if that someone special is your Grandma.
A Little Bit Crunchy A Little Bit Rock and Roll: Cinnamon Roll Bread Sticks I tried them. I loved them. My family loved them. I have made the recipe so many times now that when my kids walk in the door and they smell garlic and baking bread, they know they're getting breadsticks for dinner. Oreo Cookies-Recipe Oreo-Oreo Recipes-Cheese Cupcakes-Oreo Cheesecakes Posted by Grace Massa Langlois on Wednesday, 21st July 2010 I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t like Oreo cookies or Cream Cheesecake Cupcakes. Who could resist cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies? I went out yesterday to do my weekly shop, came home, and before I was able to bring in the first grocery bag Matt was hunting for the cookies and cream ice cream. One of Matt’s favourite desserts of all time is cherry cheesecake and I thought to myself why not Oreo Cookies and Cream Cheesecakes, that should satisfy his craving. Plus these cheesecakes are super easy to prepare, everything comes together in one bowl and there’s no crushing chocolate wafers with a rolling pin, then melting butter, baking the crust first and then baking a second time when filled. Drop an Oreo cookie into each muffin tin, make filling, add chopped cookies, bake, and enjoy, how easy is that? I can’t wait to try my hand at homemade Oreo cookies. Reptar Bars If there was one TV show that could summarize my childhood in its entirety, it would be Rugrats. I absolutely loved that show as a kid, probably because it was so darn relatable with all the wild imaginary adventures the kids had. I was browsing the instant view tab on my netflix account last week and was ecstatic when I saw Rugrats Seasons 1-4 under New Arrivals. Of course, the next several days were spent watching the first two seasons, and I realized I love the show just as much now as I did when I was five years old. The writing and characters are just so consistently great, the perfect combination of funny and adorable.
