April 17 Enemies at Peace "When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him" (Proverbs 16:7). I must see that my ways please the LORD. Even then I shall have enemies; and, perhaps, all the more certainly because I endeavor to do that which is right. But what a promise this is! The LORD will make the wrath of man to praise Him and abate it so that it shall not distress me. He can constrain an enemy to desist from harming me, even though he has a mind to do so.

And I want to encourage you to open your Bible right now to 1 Peter chapter 3. In 1 Peter chapter 3 verses 1 through 7 we have the subject, "How to win your unsaved spouse...how to lead your partner to Christ." How to witness or give testimony to your mate. This is a very instructive passage, a very important one, one that applies to all of us directly or indirectly because we are either married to an unsaved person or we know someone who is and have the opportunity to share these truths, I trust, with them.

Matthew 8 1 tn Grk “And behold, a leper came.” The Greek word ἰδού (idou) has not been translated because it has no exact English equivalent here, but adds interest and emphasis (BDAG 468 s.v. 1). sn The ancient term for leprosy covers a wider array of conditions than what we call leprosy today. A leper was totally ostracized from society until he was declared cured (Lev 13:45-46). 2 tn Grk “a leper approaching, bowed low before him, saying.” 3 tn This is a third class condition. 1 Peter 3:1-4 Commentary IN THE SAME WAY YOU WIVES: Homoios (ai) gunaikes: (Ge 3:16; Esther 1:16-20; Ro 7:2; 1Co 11:3; 14:34; Ep 5:22, 23, 24,33; Col 3:18; 1Ti 2:11,12; Titus 2:3, 4, 5, 6) Lenski sees... Bible Commentaries Online Links updated August 2011 The commentaries linked to on this page differ widely in their quality and usefulness for different purposes. Some are of a devotional nature, and are designed to help preachers and intelligent laymen. These usually offer little help on technical questions, but they often prove most helpful in guiding readers in larger questions of interpretation. Others are written from a highly critical perspective, and these are usually of no help in important theological matters, but I include them because they are often most helpful in the difficult and detailed questions about word usage and in their discussions of the cultural background. 1Peter Verse by Verse  3:13-22 BUT SANCTIFY (the) CHRIST AS LORD IN YOUR HEARTS: kurion de ton Christon hagiasate (2PAAM) en tais kardiais humon: (Nu 20:12; 27:14; Isa 5:16; 29:23) A similar phrase "sanctify My Name" is used prophetically to describe the future day (Ro 11:25-27-note) when Israel will have the veil lifted and by grace through faith will recognize her Messiah as her Lord... Therefore thus says the LORD, Who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob ("Israel"): "Jacob shall not now be ashamed (in the future when the remnant of Israel is saved), nor shall his face now turn pale; 23 BUT WHEN (Not "if") he sees his children, the work of My hands, in his midst, they (the saved remnant of Jacob) will sanctify My Name. Indeed, they will sanctify the Holy One of Israel (The Lord Jesus Christ). (Isaiah 29:22-23)

Commentary on Matthew © copyright 1997 drs Gijs van den Brink Follow me on Twitter A 'gospel' The written gospels have always been of the greatest significance to the Christian church, because they form the principal source of knowledge of the life of the Lord Jesus. The word 'gospel' means good news and the use of the term for a written report about Jesus goes back to the first- or second-generation Christians. It does not so much indicate a literary genre but characterises the contents of the book: good news about Jesus Christ.
