Flowchart Demystifies Your Cloud Music Decision There’s only one set of music on Earth. We have literally countless ways to access it. We know how baffling the array of music services can be, and we think about this stuff all day. For people who have other things on their mind, the baffling array of options can be overwhelming. If you’ve been wondering which cloud music service(s) to go with, this chart, created by Jeff Somogyi of Dealnews, should help untangle the factors that make them different:

Indie record stores see 44% growth in album sales Thursday 25 July 2013, 11:34 | By Chris Cooke Business News Retail Top Stories It can still be a tricky business running an independent record store, especially outside of a major metropolis, but here’s some good news from the indie sector: collectively the UK’s independent record shops saw album sales grow 44% year-on-year in the first half of 2013, despite British album sales overall slipping 1.5%. We know this because of stats from the Entertainment Retailer’s Association, based on Official Chart Company data. Two phenomena in particular helped cause this trend, the continued success of Record Store Day in April, and the ongoing vinyl revival which – although often exaggerated in the mainstream press – is helping some in the independent entertainment retail sector, the indies usually dedicating more space to the classic album format. ERA notes that while indie stores account for 3.2% of the albums market overall, they account for more than 50% of vinyl sales. 1.

The Top 5 Biggest Mistakes To Make When Clearing Music For Licensing The Top 5 Biggest Mistakes To Make When Clearing Music For Licensing By: Chris Rucks | Music Dealers There are various aspects to music licensing that can get pretty complex, pretty quickly. Among these is music clearance, essentially the process of locating the owners of a song and obtaining permission from them to license their music in your project. It’s wise to approach the clearance of a song with some important ideas in mind. #5 - Assuming you can’t be successful if you can’t license that particular song Is there a better selection? What’s the motivation for using the song? #4 - Not giving yourself enough time It’s wise to give yourself ample time for both the necessary research and the time that goes into contacting copyright holders. It’s Monday and your boss is struck by a “eureka” moment. • a band with seven writers and seven publishers • a band that has since fallen out and hates each other’s guts God only knows how many lawsuits have developed from this tiny misconception.

Video: “White Label” a short film about vinyl by Alexander Macdonald | The Daily Street Bristol based film maker Alexander Macdonald has created this short film that focuses on vinyl records and more specifically the people that have dedicated their lives to careers that involve the format, including Donga from Well Rounded and Chris from Idle Hands. Vinyl is just one of those things, very much like sneakers, some people just love it with a passion and if you don’t understand that passion, you’ll never understand their love for what is essentially a disc of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This short film lifts the lid on a few people’s personal attachments to records, going deeper than a simple love for listening to music on a high quality physical format and showing that often people’s attachments to things such as records stems from some of their earliest childhood memories and can even be passed from generation to generation.
