Collages In this tutorial we will learn how to make a mixed media collage. Things we will need: 1. Before I do anything, I usually paint my surface. Don’t try to be perfect. From looking at it I eliminate a few things. I applied the picture of a crying girl. I glued on a couple of more pieces. And some more. Before we continue, I will show you how to transfer images onto other surfaces. Flip the image over with the ink side down (you should have the gel medium on the ink side) and press into the fabric. Wait until everything is completely dry. Use more water if necessary. When I dipped the fabric into the dish, I rubbed it against the bottom of the plate to get some red on the fabric. I glued some more pieces on And some more images on. You can continue with putting more images on or stop right here. Cover the canvas with a gel medium of your choice (glossy, matte) to secure everything in place and to provide a coating. If you enjoyed reading this, please share with your friends!

it's always autumn - itsalwaysautumn - STL: felt monsters to make with your kids {plus free mix-n-match pattern} My four-year-old and I spent a few happy hours last week designing, cutting out, and sewing up a monster for him. We had such a great time that I created a free mix-n-match felt monster PDF sewing pattern, which includes five different monster bodies, five different sets of eyes, five mouths, and five different accessories. (Keep reading to download the free pattern!) It’s a pretty cute line-up, right? But this is even cuter: James is in love with his very own little monster, created using pieces he chose from the mix-n-match pattern as well as a little extra personalization. Older kids could trace and cut their own monsters and pieces and maybe even glue the pieces on. The 8 page PDF pattern can be downloaded by clicking here. Construction is so easy you probably don’t need instructions, but here are some step-by-step photos, and I’ve added a few tips below. Things to note: I used different colors of acrylic felt cut from a bolt at Joann’s. A few more things:
Alphabet Topografía Created by Yale-graduates Caspar Lam and YuJune Park of Synoptic Office, Alphabet Topography is a physical examination of letterforms as it relates to usage frequency. Vowels and consonants like “R” and “T” were given more vertical prominence while lesser-used letters like “W” and “G” hardly make a blip. Of the creation process YuJune tells me: I modelled the letters individually in Rhino and exported sections of each letter to AutoCad and based this alphabet on word frequency as defined by the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, which interestingly enough, is almost identical to word frequency as defined by old linotype machines. I’ve always been an incredible sucker for physical typography and this project is no exception.

Papercraft Onitsuka Tiger – Mexico 66 Sneakers Power ! This project took me so much longer than I thought it would. I may not be finished yet (I'll explain in a minute) but I want to move on to other ideas so I decided to post about it now. I certainly didn't reinvent the wheel with this one but it was something fun and super easy to make. Materials:- a magazine (I didn't use more than half of a magazine)- glue gun I started by making a tight little roll and making the flat circle that I showed you the other day. Each strip that I used is made from one page of the magazine. I added each strip to my piece by keeping the folded edge outside and the open side toward the inside. As you place each strip down only do so a short piece at a time because the glue dries really fast. I glued each strip of paper down, leaving a small piece unglued so that I could tuck in the following strip under it. Here's my unfinished bowl. A photo just to show the scale of the bowl.
