10 uses for Parmesan cheese rinds I use a lot of Parmesan cheese. I buy good quality cheese that I grate myself, and I grate it right down to the rind. Tutorial: More Texturing- Photoshopcontest.com By: ledirlo This tutorial demonstrates an effect that gets so photorealistic it led to some cheating controversies in the past. Aside from the interest of the created effect it also gives key layer technique information. The only material needed is these two photos, the crumpled paper and what we want printed on it. Let's start by opening the two photos and moving the grass photo above the paper's layer; you can turn the grass layer into multiply mode and transform it to get the correct placement. In this case I chose to avoid the darkest tree parts as they don't produce a great effect on the paper. Once finished, press CTRL+I so you invert the layer mask. The selection's edges have very little chance of being perfect already so I used the smudge tool with a large soft brush to push or draw the layer mask so it fits the paper edges perfectly. Now time for using the layer blending modes. You can now flatten all the texture layers to make a single object above the original background.

How to Make the Perfect Healthy Smoothie - NutriLiving Articles Smoothies are all the rage these days, and for good reason. Drinks made from wholesome, blended ingredients provide an easy and delicious and energizing way to boost your fruit and veggie intake. However, not all smoothies are created equal. Beverages purchased from big chains often contain a ton of fruit, juice, sweetened powders, even ice cream—loading your “healthy” smoothie with a ton of calories, and more sugar than you’re supposed to eat for the entire day! To keep your health smoothly sailing, we suggest you make your own blended fruit and veggie drinks at home. Green up your drink! Get some veggie servings down the hatch by boosting your smoothie with greens! Chill out with frozen fruit. Smoothies are tastier when cold, and frozen fruit does the trick much better than ice, which can water down your drink. Fatten it up! Adding a small source of healthy, all-natural fat to your smoothie can enrich its texture and flavor, and help you absorb more of its nutrients. Use fruit juice. 1.

Photoshop Effects: recreate the look of a medium format portrait When I first got in to photography, which wasn't quite 100 years ago, there were three reasonably clear groups of camera user. The happy snappers used compacts, the enthusiasts used SLRs and the professionals used medium, or large, format. If you were a really 'serious' amateur, and every club had at least one of these Yodas, you might have got yourself a medium format system, using 6x4.5cm, 6x6cm or even 6x7cm frames of 120 roll film. If you were a professional wedding or landscape photographer you wouldn't have dreamt of using a 35mm SLR, for credibility reasons as much as for quality, and a happy snapper wouldn't have known which end of a 35mm SLR or medium format camera to look through. Not much of that has meant a great deal in the last eight or so years, and the lines between what is professional equipment and what is amateur are exceedingly blurred. Old format, old hat In the meantime, many of us have forgotten what medium format means and what medium format can do.

Taste of Beirut – Zaatar We were taking a stroll last summer near Deir El-Kamar, our beautiful hometown in the Shouf mountains. We were at the top of a hill, surrounded by empty fields and we saw an elderly man hunched over bushes carrying huge plastic bags. He turned around to greet us and with a wide grin said ” I am digging up zaatar” (‘am hawwesh zaatar) That is one of the traditions in Lebanon: digging the wild thyme or zaatar for the family’s consumption throughout the year, or, as this man was doing, for the purpose of packaging it and selling it at the local village markets. Digging up zaatar was the first step. Then the leaves had to be dried, cleaned up and ground to a powder and finally mixed with some salt, sumac and roasted sesame seeds. Zaatar is both the name of the wild thyme (Origanum syriacum) that grows all over the mountains and hills of Lebanon and the name of the mix. Now, as a result of intense harvesting by nomadic people, wild zaatar is no longer as widespread as it once was. Sumac

Reef Parasites: Victims or Predators? | Behind the Scenes This Behind the Scenes article was provided to LiveScience in partnership with the National Science Foundation. Because "she" spawns every fourth day, I knew she would spawn today. I rolled out of bed at the chime of my reliable Winnie the Pooh alarm clock, slid into my wetsuit, grabbed my underwater flashlight and stumbled into the kitchen at the Bellairs Research Institute in Barbados to make my coffee, proud to be awake even before the roosters announced the onset of dawn. I kept a close eye on my watch because the time of first light changes each day, and if I arrived in the water even one second late, I would miss her. A Morning Tryst As usual, my arrival at the beach coincided with the ebb of the late night beach parties; dawn breaks too late for the night partiers and too early for most others — but just right for her and me. But a few minutes after my arrival, the first hint of sunrise cast just enough light for me to discern her shape as she emerged. A Damsel's Dilemma D.L.
