The Night Sky this month
2012 © by Dr Jamie Love This month we have a meteor shower but before we get to that, let's do some star gazing! April is often associated with birth so I thought that the "birth of stars" would be an appropriate theme for the April Night Sky this Month. Stars are made of matter and all matter has mass. The April night sky displays a variety of young star in various stages of infancy. The Great Nebula of Orion is our nearest star nursery. This famous star cluster is often called "The Seven Sisters" because on a clear night a person with average vision can make out seven stars in the Pleiades. Starting next month the Pleiades, then the Hyades and eventually the Great Nebula of Orion will become lost in the glow of the setting Sun. Oh, I almost forgot to mention this month's meteor shower! This month long ago . . . On the 2nd of April 1845 the first photo of the Sun was taken. Frank Drake began Project Ozma, the first search for extraterrestrial radio transmissions, on April 11th 1960.

С днем рождения, dimitry elyashkevich!
That's something real special for all our comrades out there, but for the rest of the fanny world here you go: "Happy Birthday, Dimitry Elyashkevich!" Similar to anywhere else in the cubicle universe, I suppose, there's a birthday tradition within the Dickhouse production offices—well, there's actually two traditions, the other being a cake of exceedingly ill repute—that involves the ritual "passing of the card" in which everyone writes something foul, derogatory, sarcastic, or marginally to overtly well-wishing (the latter typically from the straighter-laced accountant) on a birthday card that is slipped person to person in a Manila cloak 'n' dagger fashion. I always took these opportunities to doodle a penis of some sort, be it erect or flaccid, horse balls or squirrel nuts, with or without fluids, et or al, but since I'm no longer desk-jockeying in Los Angeles there have been no such things drawn. So, in honor of Dimitry, I'm leaving one here just for him. P.S.
