How To Spray Block Crochet or Knit Squares - Kim Werker's Blog I've fielded lots of questions about blocking crochet and knitting recently, and I thought a wee tutorial might be in order. So I spent this afternoon up in the mountains recovering from the last few months, and in so doing I blocked some squares. Here's the long and short of it; click any photo for more information, or check out the full photo tutorial on Flickr (there are about twice as many photos there*). Crochet blocking is the process of setting your fiber pieces with some form of water. You can spray block (demonstrated here), wet block (using a similar technique but starting by submerging your pieces in water until they're saturated), or steam block (using a steamer or a steam iron after you pin the dry pieces).

Free Easy Crochet Purse Pattern I recently finished this purse using a free crochet pattern I found on the Tangled Happy blog. I reduced the number of stitches to make a smaller bag for a child and I think it is adorable! I think I am going to have to make one for myself. This bag is perfect for spring! Spring Inspired Boutique Bags Boutique bags inspired by spring. I think the strappy pink one is my new favorite. What do you think? I decided to try out a bulkier yarn this time to create a sturdier bag. I used Lion Brand Baby's First Yarn. It's 55% acrylic, 45% cotton and listed as a bulky weight yarn.

How to Crochet A Curlicue Crocheting culicues are one of the most simple and fun things I've made in a while...oh and they are addicting too!For this I'm using an H hook and some worsted weight yarn I had laying around (here's a hat pattern for you I made a while back with this yarn) To begin, make a chain as long as you would like your curlicue to be plus 3 chains (the one shown here is 20+3), Crochet! I love to make them with handspun and/or single ply, but they would work well with plied wool yarn as well. Attach a bobby pin or hair elastic for a one of a kind hair decoration. Or add a brooch pin, even stitch them right to your finished garment for a sweet embellishment.

La Belle Helene: Sunburst I've been experimenting recently with lots of different ways to make strong enough 3D crochet vessels and I thought I'd give the most obvious method - wire - a try this time. I found some wires too inflexible and difficult to mould as well as being too skinny in diameter once crocheted, so I decided to try wire with its plastic coating still on - like the ones you find in electric cables. In the UK that will be brown and blue colours:) (the earth wire doesn't have a plastic coating inside the big grey tubing which I stripped off, just the bare copper - which is very nice in its own right and I will keep for later!) Ok, so I have my plastic coated wire, and now I can see how it moulds - yummy!
