How to Make Paper Pencils (tutorial) I have always wanted to make my own pencils, but the thought of shaping two pieces of wood to allow a piece of lead to sit perfectly inside made me think it wasn’t worth the effort. For some reason I was looking at some pieces of lead I have (for a drafting pencil) and “pop” there it was.. a solution to my DIY longing. Here is a tutorial to make pencils that is so ridiculously easy I’ve made 10 pencils since the idea came to me yesterday! Enjoy. Paper: I recommend using 6″ origami paper. The paper I used was beautiful washi origami paper made in Japan (see exact product here). Here’s a video I made so you can watch me make it from start to finish! I have to admit I really enjoyed doing this craft. Hope you’re just as excited about this as I am! leads {here} paper {here} mod podge {here} {If you like pencils, you may also like my toadstool pencil craft!} Share 16K+ Kimanh Hi my name's Kimanh.

How to make boxes from paint swatches If you've got paint chips sitting around begging to be made into something, try folding them into boxes for paperclips, thumbtacks, party favor candies, or tiny gifts. I made these from Behr swatches, available at Home Depot. You'll need paint swatches, double-stick tape, an X-acto knife, ruler, and cutting mat. For the box bottom, cut a 1/2" strip off each of the two rounded ends of the swatch. You should be left with a 5" x 5" square. At a point slightly more than 1 1/2" from one edge—about 1 17/32" if you want to be picky, but I just eyeballed it—score a line with your knife. The box lid is constructed the same way. Fold each sheet on the scored lines, bending flaps inward and securing them with double-stick tape.

A magic mirror for e-commerce One of the most vexing problems for e-commerce sites is that some would-be purchasers simply won’t buy an item they can’t try on first. Enter Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) “Magic Mirror.” The tech giant has reportedly been working on a high-tech mirror that would let consumers stand in front of an LCD monitor and have parametric technology simulate their body type and figure out how fabrics would fit based on their weight, height, and measurements. The Magic Mirror, which could turn our computer screens into digital fitting rooms, is three to five years from fruition, reports USA Today. But it is indicative of how much retail could change in the next few years, thanks to new technology and devices such as smartphones and tablets that allow consumers to shop anywhere—and which can allow retailers instantly know who is walking into a store and what types of items they want to buy. Pepper's ghost Technique[edit] In order for the illusion to work, the viewer must be able to see into the main room, but not into the hidden or "Blue Room." The edge of the glass is sometimes hidden by a cleverly designed pattern in the floor. The hidden room may instead be painted black, with only light-colored objects in it. In the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland/Walt Disney World and Disneyland Tokyo, the glass is vertical to the viewer as opposed to the normal angled position, reflecting animated props below and above the viewer that create the appearance of three-dimensional, translucent "ghosts" which appear to be dancing through the ballroom and interacting with props in the physical ballroom. History[edit] Giambattista della Porta[edit] Giambattista della Porta was a 16th-century Neapolitan scientist and scholar who is credited with a number of scientific innovations, including the camera obscura. Porta's description, from the 1658 English language translation, is as follows. Modern examples[edit]

FightingArts – Articles & forums on martial arts, karate, kung fu, judo & more How To Make an Incredibly Easy Panoramic Photograph With Any Camera You might know that there are special cameras for shooting panoramic pictures. Today, we’ll put one together in seconds that we shot with a regular digital camera and a tripod. Grab your favorite image editor and camera, and let’s go! Even if you don’t have Photoshop, you’ll be surprised at how easy it can be to take some good shots, merge them, and get a convincing panorama. Setting Up Your Panoramic Shot The most difficult part of creating a panoramic image with a non-panoramic camera is simply shooting the images—properly. The first part of the process involves getting a tripod that your camera can mount on and find a relatively level place to shoot your image. Rotate your shot horizontally on a fixed axis and take multiple shots that overlap. Most lenses on DSLRs have manual and automatic settings, as shown above. If you aren’t using a DSLR, you may have to refer to your camera’s manual to see if you can disable the auto focus, or simply shoot around it. Merging Your Pictures

The Technique Zone: Acrylic Paint Transfer Supplies needed: Acrylic dabbers, photocopy of an image, water spritzer bottle, paintbrush, card stock, craft sheet and heat tool (optional) Take the lid off the dabbers and brush the paint onto the card stock, ensure you get a good coverage Take your photocopied image ( remember that you will get a reverse of the image, so don't use bold words), flip it over and place it in the acrylic. Lightly press it down making sure it's smooth and not wrinkled Leave to air dry for at least 15 minutes and then if you wish give it a blast with the heat tool Only move onto this step when you are sure your paint is completely dryTake your water filled spritzer bottle, spray the back of the paper no more than two squirts, you don't want it too wet Next start to rub the paper very gently with your finger Keep rubbing and extra spritzing if you need too Eventually you will get rid of all the paper, but it does take a bit of patience as you have to be careful not to wet it too much and rub the image away

Potato and Cheese Pierogi Recipe Pierogi are traditional Polish noodle dumplings, filled with a variety of classic sweet and savory mixtures. For this recipe, we've chosen to make a basic potato-cheese filling and serve them as a side dish topped with sour cream, garlic and chive sauce. Our family recipe, combined with a fairly standard dough preparation method, produces an exceptionally light and tender finished product. The secret? 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting3 large eggs2 tablespoons sour cream3/4 to 1 cup water 1-1/2 lbs baking potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch slices2 tablespoons unsalted butter1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil1 small sweet onion, chopped1 clove garlic, minced1/4 teaspoon dried thyme3/4 to 1 cup grated dry farmer's cheeseKosher salt and freshly ground pepper to taste 1/2 stick butter, cut into 1 tablespoon portions1 recipe Sour Cream Garlic-Chive Sauce For the dough: In a large bowl or mixer, combine the flour, eggs, sour cream and 1/2 cup of water. The Secret Law of Page Harmony “A method to produce the perfect book.” The perfect book. This is how designer-genius Jan Tschichold described this system. Not the ok book, nor the pretty good book, but the perfect book. This method existed long before the computer, the printing press and even a defined measuring unit. And you can still use it. The Secret Canon & Page Harmony Books were once a luxury only the richest could afford and would take months of work to be brought to fruition. And they were harmoniously beautiful. The bookmakers knew the secret to the perfect book. So elegant is this method of producing harmony that a few designers saw to rediscover it. They found the way to design a harmonious page. There’s a dance to all this Let’s look at this dance, shall we? And here it is with them (using the Van de Graaf Canon and Tschichold’s recommended 2:3 page-size ratio, which we’ll get into next). This is where the harmony is found. How is this dance beautiful? A module is to a grid, as a cell is to a table. The J.
