Twitter Better: 20 Ways to Filter Your Tweets -Most Twitter users probably follow under a thousand other people, but that's enough to make it hard to keep track of the real-time stream. I actually started having trouble keeping up when I hit about 50 follows — and depending on how prolific the people you're following are, you could be dealing with a hard-to-parse Twitter stream even following just a handful of people. But while people like social media fanatic Robert Scoble, who follows over 100,000 people, appear to have the superhuman ability to stay on top of things, the rest of us need help filtering the Twitter stream. Fortunately, there are a good number of methods and applications we can put to work to filter tweets from the people we're following. (Please note that a few of the apps in this post actually do multiple types of filtering, and so could have theoretically been added to more than one category.) By Keyword One way to filter Twitter is by keyword. By Links By Grouping By Favorites

How to Decide Who to Follow on Twitter I have had several conversations lately about how to use Twitter and how to decide who to follow. I know everyone has a different methodology and goal when using Twitter. Here is mine. I have gmail filter, label and auto archive emails from Twitter and I go through them every week or so. Any of the following disqualifies the account for a follow: the default avatar10,000 followers or morebusinessessocial media expertsmarketing expertsno biono real nameprivate account Of course as these are my rules I have broken them all at least once I’m sure. :-) Other than that I look at the bio, the link if there is one and recent tweets. I try to keep the number of people I follow around 250 and absolutely wont go over 300. How do you decide who to follow? Other strategies and tips: Similar Posts:

OMG! Shut up about Twitter already - Technotica Micro-famous art blogger Paddy Johnson recently hepped her readers to a social networking application that actually makes Twitter seem relevant and interesting — at least to me. It's Cursebird, a "real-time feed of people swearing on Twitter," and it is awesome. Not only does it relay (or "retweet" as the kids say) profane Twitter posts, the Cursebird home page features the top five bad words currently ranking on the social network along with percentage points, the cursing stats of random foul-fingered tweeters, and a search feature to check just how nasty your Twitter pals can be. Beyond this and a couple of other independently developed Twitter apps that cater to my outer juvenile, I don’t much care for Twitter. Also, I’m really sick of hearing about it. Seriously. In 2007 I wrote about Twitter in a column titled " Twitter Nation: Nobody cares what you're doing ." First, an increasing number of search and sort applications make Twitter easier to mold to personal preferences and use.

7 Traits of Bad Twitter Follows | Meryl.net I hit 2000 “following” on twitter. Yet, I discovered more brilliant people I wanted to follow and couldn’t because I hadn’t reached 2000 “followers”. This compelled me to do way early spring cleaning of my twitter account. Twitter puts this in place to minimize spammy accounts. It would be nice if it would use math instead of a flat 2000 number. The chiseling process amazed me as I found that I followed people that I wouldn’t follow today. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
