Early life[edit] David Jon Gilmour was born on 6 March 1946, in Cambridge, England. Gilmour travelled to France in mid 1967 with Rick Wills and Willie Wilson, formerly of Jokers Wild. Pink Floyd[edit] In late December 1967, drummer Nick Mason approached Gilmour and asked him if he would be interested in joining Pink Floyd.
