Charles-Alexandre Lesueur | Avoir l'Herbot Charles-Alexandre Lesueur Voyageur, naturaliste, artiste-peintre… Il naît au Havre en 1778 et mène une vie peu commune : différentes rencontres et circonstances l’entraînent vers l’Australie (Voyage aux Terres Australes de Nicolas Baudin) puis aux États-Unis (parti pour un contrat de 2 ans, il s’y installe pour 21 ans). Il ne néglige pas pour autant la France voyageant jusqu’à la Côte d’Azur et privilégiant tout particulièrement la région havraise. L’un des plus grands naturalistes, il est surtout connu aux États-Unis… où de nombreux ouvrages lui sont consacrés. Le don d’une partie de ses collections confirme la Ville du Havre dans son souhait de fonder un muséum d’histoire naturelle et l’en nomme le premier conservateur (1845). La collection Lesueur est une des rares collections du Muséum du Havre à avoir été sauvée des bombardements de septembre 1944.
