How To Make Your Own Subtitles With Any Text Editor & Aegisub It’s actually not that hard to manually put subtitles into your videos. It often just takes a bit of time, but soon enough, you’ll be able to translate videos to improve accessibility (especially when subtitles in your language aren’t available on the Web), or when you just want to be funny (like some of the English-subtitled Hitler spoofs on the iPad). Any text editor that you have will be enough to create basic subtitles. For more customized subtitles, you can check out the second section of this article. Making Basic Subtitles In A Text Editor For this article, we’ll be using the built-in Notepad text editor in Windows to make basic subtitles with no additional color or font customization. We will go over how to create subtitles in the SubRip (.srt) format, which follows this easy-to-learn pattern: 1 00:00:20,000 --> 00:00:24,400 Howdy! Start the first line with the number 1.Now input the times of the subtitle/caption start and end. Making Better-Looking Subtitles In Aegisub

One of the things I love about it is its ability to search through a huge number of messages, and find exactly what I need quickly. But what if I told you there's a way to make searching your Gmail even faster, and that it wasn't Google that did it? CloudMagic is a Google Chrome and Firefox extension which indexes your email locally on your computer, and provides ridiculously fast results when you search. From a privacy standpoint, CloudMagic creates the index locally on your machine, so there's no risk of someone snooping through your messages. It's not clear to me what CloudMagic's revenue plan is, but I sure get a kick out of the idea of someone coming along and beating the pants off Google at search in Google's own email service. DIY Button Tufted Headboard Following in the footsteps of some great bloggers, I made by very own button tufted headboard! If you're looking for a tutorial to follow, I highly recommend the ones over at Little Green Notebook and Brick City Love. My headboard took elements from both of those tutorials, and I must say that they were very helpful. Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, I thought I'd just share some photos of my process and a few notes on things I learned as I went along. I'm not sure where the idea for this headboard first happened. I must have seen something similar and got it stuck in my head. For my California King mattress, I ended up making the headboard two feet tall and six feet wide. While other people have simply hung their headboards on the wall, I didn't really trust myself to be able to hang it securely enough to stand up to regular use. For my 6ft long headboard, I only purchased 2.5 yards of dark gray upholstery weight chenille fabric.

Google Chrome dev channel hits v7 -- get ready for native code in Web apps! Those of you who have been waiting patiently to see what Google's Native Client is all about shouldn't have to wonder much longer. With yesterday's bump to version 7, Google Chrome dev now comes with the NaCl plug-in enabled by default -- and as we've seen countless times before, once a feature is turned on it doesn't take long for Chrome developers to pounce on it. So, what is Native Client all about? It's Google open source tech which allows native code (the kind of code which powers your favorite desktop apps) to run inside your browser. If you want to see Native Client in action, Google has a gallery of NaCl demo ports you can check out -- or at least you're meant to be able to check them out. The dev channel update was actually quite a major one, though it mostly contained bugfixes and cleaned up code. update: as reported in the comments, you need to add the --enable-nacl flag to your shortcut. diy tufted headboard As I said last week, this isn’t my best project. I had high hopes, but it just didn’t turn out exactly like that picture in my head. But it’s okay~it’s good for you to see that not all diy projects turn out “look at this, it’s amazing and soooo easy!” :) And do you know how you pore and labor over something and that is ALL that is on your mind and it seems that every detail matters, but then once you get it up in the room, you realize it’s not as bad as you thought? And I’m NOT re-doing it, at least not this year. We had this piece of pegboard downstairs from the previous owners and I was going to use it in the garage or down in the office, but I thought.." Next, I counted and marked off where we wanted the buttons/tufts to be and circled them. We are in the process of switching the boys’ rooms around, so I had 2 twin foam toppers we were going to get rid of that I saved exactly for this: and then poked some thread through my marked holes to show where to tuft on the other side:

Diaspora puts out Developer Release -- source code is here! Diaspora has just offered up their first public release – a developer version of the platform. In their own words, Diaspora is "in its infancy," but now everyone can see exactly what's going on in the code base, and hopefully pitch in with some help. This code is far from production-ready, but it is a solid indication that the Diaspora guys have been using their crowdsourced startup money for more than mojitos. According to Diaspora's post, here are some of the features that are already implemented: Share status messages and photos privately (and in near real time) with your friends through "aspects." "Aspects" seems to be a favorite buzzword here. You can see screenshots in the original post.
