Parlour: Cheery Home Found this fun house tour on Apartment Therapy, and thought it would make a lovely post for this Friday in July! Talk about personality. The colors are cheery and personify my idea of summer. Simple Bow Tie Top I'm so happy about how this turned out. This is one of those projects that's been on my to do list forever and now that I finally got it done, I wish I had done it a long time ago. This is such a simple project. One of the easiest I've ever made. Materials: 5/6 + yard knit & 1/3 yard silk, cotton, etc. My knit is 60" wide and my dusty pink silk (faux) is 45" wide. Your fabric doesn't have to be exactly as wide as mine, just keep in mind that if you buy a fabric that is less wide you may need to purchase more to compensate. Cut two large squares to the dimensions of 30" x 30" If you bought 5/6 yd of 60" fabric all you have to do is cut along the fold line. **Edit- 30" length gives you a long top. Make a casing at the top of each square. Sew down with a zig zag stitch (so it can stretch). Start working on your sash. I made a mistake when I made my sash and cut where I shouldn't have. Cut right down the middle of your fabric so that you have two 45" by 6" strips. Cut off extra fabric Voila.

Winter Connectivity (by @baekdal) #design It's getting cold, and winter is just around the corner... or more precisely somewhere in the north-western direction. And that means that we are getting swamped with winter gloves that are compatible with the modern era. The problem is that regular gloves don't work with modern devices - especially touch screens. A few examples: Etre Touchy gloves simply made a glove with two fingers missing. Dots are made in a similar way, but instead of missing a finger, they have added a rubber "dot" at the tip. Tvo is doing almost the same thing, although these gloves seem rather thin. And Freehand are combining the two and have created flip-back-finger-tip gloves. And in case you live near the arctic circle, you can always take comfort in using Google Voice Search. Follow: 42Concepts

Sliding Knot Instructions I just love this necklace finishing technique. No clasp to buy, and so easy to get the necklace on and off fast. This sliding closure is a row of square knots knotted around the necklace strands. It looks neat and tidy yet decorative, and is really simple to execute. Love this website? psimadethis.com Ideas That Bloom by ideasthatbloom T-shirt sleeves into shorts and a t-shirt scarf, mini tute « Punkn’s A few weeks ago I agreed to do a pay-it-forward gift exchange. A friend had posted a note on their facebook profile that the first five people to leave a comment would receive something handmade by her. The deal was there was no set deadline, but it would be within the year, no set value and no notification of when or what was being sent. It could be something crafted, it could be a box of cookies or a full on meal. The only stipulation was if you left a comment that you had to re-post the note on your profile and agree to do the same for the first 5 people who commented and so on. I really didn’t know what to make and then I came across a tutorial on This Old Dress. For this project you need one or two tshirts, the bigger the better, depending on how full you want your neck lush to be. Lay out your tshirts flat. cut off the hem and cut off the body portion just at the underarm point. Set aside the top portions of the shirts for the next tutorial and hang on to the bottom hem pieces.

Black & White Steampunk - Dragonfly Designs by Alisa So I finished this costume right in the nick of time; I was still sewing the day before I was set to leave! The jacket, alas, never did get finished, but it was just warm enough that it didn't matter. The only other fail was me losing my stockings. I remember trying them on a few days before I needed to pack, but on the day I was packing? But on to the pictures. First, because this is a win/fail sort of situation, I'll show you the bustle. Since I made it using whatever I had at hand, and in a hurry (it was meant as more a test bustle than the real thing) it doesn't look too bad, right? Ye-up, several taxis later, that's one squished bustle! The collar. Second step, making the separate collar: Back/side view: And putting it together; the collar buttons onto the shirt's buttons, like so: The front panel of the collar then swings around and buttons in place: And with the cravat in place: I like how the lace band of the cravat tucks just underneath the top buttons! And they're not the only ones. Did you know, for instance, that the oils in avocados more closely resemble our own skin's oils than any product in the beauty aisle does? For all hair types "The [raw] egg is really the best of all worlds," says Janice Cox, author of "Natural Beauty at Home". To use: For normal hair, use the entire egg to condition hair; use egg whites only to treat oily hair; use egg yolks only to moisturize dry, brittle hair, Cox says. For dull hair Styling products (as well as air pollution) can leave a film that both saps moisture and dulls shine — but dairy products like sour cream and plain yogurt can help reverse this damage. To Use: Massage 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt into damp hair and let sit for 20 minutes. For itchy scalp For limp or fine hair For dry or sun-damaged hair
