Born in Paris, France on March 13, 1946, Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a world-renowned photographer specializing in aerial photography. Upon his return to France, he published in 1981 his first book Lions, first release of a series of 80 books. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. YANN ARTHUS-BERTRAND continued… In the 90s, under the patronage of UNESCO, Yann embarked upon his most ambitious project: creating an image bank of the Earth seen from above. Un réservoir d'images du domaine public Internet Archive, projet d'archivage du web initié en 1996 par Brewster Kahle, met également gratuitement à disposition des internautes de très nombreuses ressources multimédia (texte, image, audio, vidéo) « libres » et/ou « tombées » dans le domaine public. Un chercheur à l'Université de Georgetown, Kalev Leetaru, a développé une application lui permettant d'extraire plus de 14 millions d'images à partir de 2 millions d'ouvrages numérisés disponibles via Internet Archive. Ces illustrations sont peu à peu diffusées sur la plateforme Flickr. Chaque image est documentée de manière détaillée : titre du livre, auteur, année de publication, éditeur, légende, tags. Il est aussi possible de visualiser le livre d’origine en version numérique, ce qui permet d'apprécier l'image en contexte, voire d'observer les autres images présentes dans l'ouvrage comme le montre l'exemple de ce dessin extrait de : Sources et références complémentaires

Amazing Photo Manipulation March 8th, 2011 Huda Ikraam All of us are aware how advanced the technology is today. Today you can use computer programs and make what ever you want in digital form. You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. Paris-26-gigapixels : Paris comme vous ne l'avez jamais visité Certains n'auront peut être jamais la chance de visiter la ville lumière : éloignement géographique, manque de temps...Pourtant, Paris recèle bien des beautés et des mystères cachés. Pour les trouver, une des solutions consiste à arpenter les rues de la ville, s'y perdre, faire demi-tour, zigzaguer entre les touristes... Une autre solution, certes beaucoup plus « virtuelle », permet de visiter la ville dans ses moindres détails, derrière son écran. Le charme est moins authentique mais opère quand même, et surtout, on salue la prouesse technologique du site Paris-26-gigapixels. J'ai deux amouuuuurs... Conçue par deux photographes français, la photo de Paris présentée sur le site en 26 gigapixels restitue dans ses moindres détails la capitale de l'Hexagone. En réalité, cette photo représente deux terrains de football.
World Press Photo: winners On the morning of February 11, 2011, the international jury of the 54th World Press Photo Contest named a photo by South African photographer Jodi Bieber, World Press Photo of the Year 2010. The image is a portrait of Bibi Aisha, disfigured as punishment for fleeing her husband's house, taken in Kabul, Afghanistan. Over 5,691 photographers entered 108,059 images in the 2011 World Press Photo Contest and after the two-week judging period, 56 were named winners in nine categories. Bibi Aisha, an 18-year-old woman from Oruzgan province in Afghanistan, fled back to her family home from her husband's house, complaining of violent treatment.
National Geographic's Photography Contest 2010 National Geographic is once again holding their annual Photo Contest, with the deadline for submissions coming up on November 30th. For the past eight weeks, they have been gathering and presenting galleries of submissions, encouraging readers to rate them as well. National Geographic was again kind enough to let me choose some of their entries from 2010 for display here on The Big Picture.
