Niemand bezweifelt mehr, dass es die führende deutsche Kunstmesse ist. Direktor Daniel Hug will allerdings mehr: Die Art Cologne soll sogar die Art Basel überflügeln. Vor vier Jahren kam der US-Galerist Daniel Hug aus Los Angeles, um die angeschlagene Art Cologne zu übernehmen. Wie sieht es aus – haben Sie ein paar neue große Namen für die Art Cologne gewinnen können? Daniel Hug: Dieses Jahr kommen international bekannte Schwergewichte zurück auf die Messe: Thaddaeus Ropac aus Paris und Salzburg, der seit 15 Jahren nicht mehr auf der Art Cologne war, zum Beispiel. Und was sagen die, warum sie kommen? Verschiedenes. Was ist denn das Profil der Art Cologne? Es ist eine internationale Messe mit Schwerpunkt Deutschland. So ganz international ist die Messe ja nicht. Auf amerikanischen Messen ist so etwas nie ein Thema. Aber Berlin zieht doch immer mehr an. Klar. Warum sollte man dieses Jahr nach Köln kommen?
